Motorola C650 and mobile technology.

The Motorola C650 is a fine example of how Motorola is behind in the progression of mobile technology compared to other manufacturers. While the C650 has similar dimensions as the Sony Ericsson T610, the Motorola has a smaller screen, no bluetooth function, and no flash for the camera. Since this phone is being introduced one year after the T610's releases, there is no excuse for the lack of features. Another example is the Motorola V600 (also V300 and V400). These higher end Motorola flip phones were released around the same time as the Samsung E715 flip phone. The E715 has an integrated antenna and a camera with flash. The V600 still has a stub antenna and no flash for the camera. Motorola is always releasing old technology while th...

You seem to assume that every phone must be a high-end phone with maximum features. 🙄 That's simply not the way it works. It's vital for each and every manufacturer to have a complete range of phones that cover the gamut when it comes to pricing.

The C650 does not compete with the T610. The C650 is much closer to competing with the T230/T237, and in that category it's a winner by far.

Among the competition, the C650 is actually most similar to the Siemens C65 and C66. They are both affordable entry-level camera phones.

If you want to compare Motorola to Sony Ericsson, compare the E398 to the K700i. I think you'll find that Motorola is quite competitive after all.

Rich, I am going to have to agree with your reply about the motorola c650. But, you have to agree that there is no excuse for the Motorola V600's (and its variants) inferiority to the Samsung E715. These two phones were released around the same time. The V600 feels cheap, has a gray plastic stub antenna which doesnt match its exterior styling, and lacks a camera flash. Samsung, on the other hand, consistently produces well-built handsets with attractive and coherent styling. Do you remember the Motorola V60? Do you know how many times I had to replace the cheap plastic stub antenna? Too many. Motorola needs to invest more money when it comes to their built-quality. Samsung has cornered the flip phone market. No other company can co...

Another thing Rich, you said that the C650 cannot be compared to the T610 because the C650 is entry level which I agree. But every year, the "Entry Level" segment becomes more technological as does the "High End" segment. Therefore entry level phones for 2004 should be comparable to midrange phones of 2003 (like the t610) and the high end phones of 2004 should be superior to the high phones of 2003. This is a natural progression which has occured since the beginning of technology. So comparing the C650 to the T610 does kind of make sense.

Anything can be refuted. There are no absolutes in life. 😉

It sounds like you dislike Motorola. I think both companies have their strengths and weaknesses. Both opinions are valid.

But just to play devil's advocate... let me refute: 😈

Where is Samsung on Bluetooth? They announced the SGH-X410 but never shipped it. They do that a lot - announce cool phones that they never deliver. They're the only top-5 manufacturer without a single Bluetooth model.

What about voice dialing? They have the excellent Voice Signal software ...

In my last reply, I was talking about built quality not features. In terms of features, in reality, there is a very small percentage of cell phone users who travel around the world and desperately need a cell phone, so quadband really isnt that necessary. And yes I agree that samsung does need to further study bluetooth, but they do atleast offer Ir. Samsung is better than Motorola when it comes to reliabilty and built quality. Its typical for an American company to try to maximize profits by producing a cheap feeling cell phone and put a high price tag on it. At least Samsung gives you a nicely built phone that wont fall apart for the money.

another thing, samsung does produce a lot of concept phones which do not make it to market, but thats because wireless carriers wont commit to a contract. So its not samsungs fault that their cool phones dont make it to market. But i agree again that samsung needs bluetooth. all they have now is Ir for data transfer between phones.

samsung quality is pretty good, and that is it. i dont like either company but i bought the s307 and i didnt get any singal in my room, i actually got lackluster reception everywhere. if it was three bars or less i usally got nothing or close to nothing. i had assumed its the price i paid for by going to GSM. when i got my V400 i got reception everywhere in my house. although the V400 has some soft...

While I agree that the Moto V600 is a poor newly released Moto,.. I currenly own the V300 and in comparison sadly the v300 acutally out performs the v600, and when compared against the E715,.. the E715 is no match,. .the E715 has less talk time, doesn't have speaker phone, is VERY slow when accessing menus ( almost as slow as the V600) and feels cheaply made. It's ok that you have noticed the flaws in many Moto,.. BUT DO NOT list/compare all phones if you have not tested them yourself! 👿 😈

youre right, the v300 has more talk time, but in terms of standby time the E715 beats the V300 by 4 days. Also yes the V300 has speaker phone, but who wants other people listening in on your conversations. The speaker phone option is a matter of taste and opinion. And there is no way the E715 can be considered as poorly built. Its solid. My friend has a new V300. The upper flip part of the phone which houses the display wiggles too much. It wiggles too much for a newly bought phone. Poor quality. And I'm not comparing all phones. Im comparing Samsung to Motorola in terms of built quality. So if anyone is replying to these posts, please stay on topic.

I'm sorry that your friend got a lemon,.. stuff like that happens some time,.. but YOU are the one whom compared the V400 and V300 when you stated "These higher end Motorola flip phones were released around the same time as the Samsung E715 flip phone" and that "Motorola is always releasing old technology while the other companies have the new" and the only vaild comparison for the Samsung E715 be the V300 since they both are sold for T-mobile. And what's more important how long you can talk or how many days your can wait for a phone call w/o charging your phone?
PS as for your friend has he spoke to T-mobile about getting a replacement for an defective phone?
