It can be done one handed but it takes coordination. To answer a call when the swivel is closed (Only reason I can think of for having to open it 1 handed) you use the jog button on the side to select "answer call" then just hold it up to your ear like a candy-bar phone.
To open it one handed here's what I do:
lay phone across my right palm face-up with the antenna between thumb and fore-finger,
brace the phone against the heel of my palm and use the last 3 fingers to push the swivel as far as I can, then flip it the rest of the way against my hip or anything else in reach.
Closing it one handed is simple, I just hold the keypad part and swivel the phone closed against my hip.
