Well I just got this phone and was wondering if any of you have it and if so is there a way to connect it to my computer so I can save the pics/videos?

Well, Kyocera makes a data kit: http://store.kyocera-wireless.com/product_det ail.aspx?productID=1362
According the docs in their support area it can download pics and video. I recently asked the forum if anyone had any experience with this software, but no one responded. If you get it, please let me know how it works.

Well it is on back order so I guess i will have to wait on it either way.

I thought it came with the phone, but I guess this is another way to get some money from us.

do you know how many pictures it will hold?

I purchased my KX2 the day Verizon released it. I then researched available data cables and ended up buying the genuine Kyocera USB data cable and Desktop software. The data cable was on backorder, but Kyocera neglected to let me know for several weeks. I finally received the data cable and software last night. Perhaps there is something wrong with my computer (Windows 98SE), but the data cable and software do work as advertised. I can update my contacts no problem, but when it comes to transferring images and movies...no dice. I can only transfer images that have been designated as caller ID pictures to my computer from the phone (the size of a thumbnail). All of the pictures and movies in my "Media Gallery" do not show up after sync...

kyoceraowner:

I don't think that you have a software problem... I just got my cable last night and I have the same issue. I belive verizon disabled that feature so that we HAVE to use pix msg's. I am personally ticked off because and am seriously considering returning this cable because the cost does not justify only being able to save contacts and ringtones. I got this mainly to sync my pictures. What the hell is the point of buying something you can't use. Not to be mad at kyocera, but if someone spends extra money to do something easier than people who don't, they should be able to do it. /rant.

Hope this helps...

I just checked kyocera's site again, and it seems that they are leaving out the download images part of the description of their cable / software. I found the old docs in their knowledge base and I printed some out, just in case they are trying to phase this out thanks to the different providers.

OK, I guess I figured out how to get all pictures transferred, but I'm not going to uninstall and retest because I don't want to fix what ain't broke. In the phone desktop software, I created a new phone book and just did a picture sync and all pics were there. So I'll use the default phonebook for contacts and whatnot and the otherone for pics. Strange because in the default one, I try to sync the pics and it only does the 5 caller ID pics I have, and says there is no more to sync when I try to sync again. Let me know if this is of any help.

Thanks for figuring out how to download the pics. I tried it with a new phonebook and it worked. Great work...I would have never figured it out in a million years. I still have problems loading to the phone, but I'm going to tinker around and see what happens. Any tips you have would be much appreciated.

I got the Cable & Software last week. Yes you can upload and download all the pictures. You can also create mp3 ringtones and upload them to the phone using the cable. I'm using it with WinXP.

Step 1: Create an mp3 file (I've used 16 bit, mono, 24khz and 16bit, mono, 32 khz, both work) it has to be relatively small but a large mp3 is pointless anyways because your voicemail will pickup after about 30 seconds anyways.

Step 2: change the extension on the file to .mid instead of .mp3

step3: open the KPD software, go to ringers and use the "import ringer" function to find your file and import it.

Sync the ringers (the phone reboots at the end of the sync)

go to the "settings" : "sounds" : "Ringer type" menu and select your rington...

Cool!

So my wife can record a message into an MP3 on a PC - something like "It is my sister calling", then with the cable I can d/l into the phone as a ringtone. Then in addition to the picture of her sister coming up on the display when she call my wife's phone - I can have to play the "It is my sister calling" MP3? A talking caller ID, as it were?

Do you have to use the Kyocera desktop software or do you just need the cable?

Thanks

I used the kyocera desktop software. You can probably use the bitPim software in "other CDMA" mode and directly access the file system on the phone but I don't have any experience with it.

I fogot to ask, is your phone with Verizon or another carrier?

Verizon tends to lock the phones down so you will forced to use "GetItNow" or their picture service (for a fee) rather than have the phone be open. We are with Verizon, so I have a concern that even with the cable it will not work for me. I have the USB cable for the T720 and it just lets you backup and restore the contacts - not much else on a Verizon T720.

The Motorola bluetooth phone is a good example, the PHONE can send and receive files, tones, etc via BT - but the Verizon version the BT is limited to just a headset.

Thanks!

Yes, Verizon. The KPD software only recognizes .mid files as "ringtones" but the phone doesn't seem to care what the extension is.

I got the cable mainly because I couldn't justify 25 cents for every picture (especially when the pictures aren't very good compared to my old 1MP camera).
