Couple of Koi Questions

First off I am not with the 21st century and do not have a cell phone at this point. I have been reading about the koi and I am thinking about going with it....however I have a few questions and if you all would give me your opinions I would appreciate it.

1. What kind of service does Kyocera provide? By this I mean if my phone blows up am I out of luck or is it painless to get a new one.

2. How have Kyocera products treated you in the past?

3. Where the heck can I find this phone? Should it be out nationwide at all Verizon stores? I have had no luck finding it to see and play with.

Thanks

Overall Kyocera make a pretty good phone, dealing with them as an ASC (Authorized Service Center) they suck, they are very stringent on there warranty, so don't drop the phone, or get it wet. when u send your phone in for service we get it, or our equivalent, then it will go to factory, if unrepairable here, then era sends u a replacement phone, which bye it self only has a 9o day warranty (key not on last stayment, keep track of your proof of perchase because Kyocera will honer the original 1 years warranty with the referb unit, just make sure u have your paper work and send copies of it with the phone)

i hope this helps, any question give me a buzz

Thanks for the help.

So basically as long as I have my paper work in order I should be able to get a new one.

Have you heard of people having better success dealing with the company from which they have the contract....in this case Verizon?

My main concern is what should I do to best protect myself in the event that my phone breaks.

VZW will cover all but physical (cracked plastics, cracked display, etc..) and liquid damage (pop, coffee, watter, oil, any liquid). All other defects (display stops, mic stops, cant hear, etc..) are covered. In the case of physical or liquid damage, VZW does offer insurance for $5.00 a month with a $50.00 deductible, which is alot batter than full retail. And the best part all you have to do is take it to a VZW company store (not a reseller, radio shack, Jim's wireless, etc..) and the repair will be done in store, usually same day.

One more thing.

I understand that getting loud does sometimes help, but answer me this about insurance.

Say I do not get it (Insurance) and my phone breaks can I add the insurance at any time and then take the phone in once it kicks in? I know that is highly unethical, but I would be a liar if I said I was not interested to know.

No, you only have a seven day window from the day you purchase a phone to add verizon's insureance. The insurance is actually through a third party company, its just billed to you through your Verizon bill. The thing to remember is Kyocera only offers a one year warranty on the phone. If you get a two year contract, you should purchase an extended warranty to cover the second year of your contract. An extended warranty from Radioshack, for example, would fix your phone if it stopped working and also replace your battery, which you'll need to replace probably two to three times in your contract if you talk alot and use all the feautres on the phone frequently.

Partially right, in order to receive total equipment coverage "TEC" (more about this latter) you must add it within a grace period (I believe 15 days) but insurance can be added any time in your contract. Yes the insurance is through a third party company but TEC is through VZW. TEC is insurance (third party) combined with an VZW honored 1 year extension to your warranty. Yes Radio Shack's service plan does cover the battery but that is the only advantage, although VZW covers you battery through the manufactures warranty for 1 year so this only extends battery coverage for a year. Radio shack's service plan does not cover liquid or physical damage and is not honored by VZW, they also send the phone away for repair which in my experience (I u...

Just an FYI... Lock/Line will send a data test to the phone to see if it is functioning. This is who Att and Cingular use. They may also call the customer as well.

before i became a technician i worked in retail, i found that a customer could get most of what he wanted by being vocal, and that is pretty much the case with all companies, (it not the right way, but it works), the second but best option is the insurance, i wouldn't by it on a penny phone, but the koi isn't a penny phone. The tech news (we have a tech testing it out) that i am getting from the Kois says its a very good phone, the only worries that i have about it is the swivel, so i would buy the insurance it will save u money in the long run.

well...i work for vzw..last few kyoceras have been finicky...like the moto's
battery recalls...software issues
when running right they get great reception

2 years ago i had a kyocera 2235...the reception for one of the first 1x phones wasn't bad...its screen kept going out tho..the blue screen was the cool thing on the block before the color screens came out tho...hence my reason for buying

after playing with this phone...and checking out the price...its not a bad buy..i do recommend insurance to any high end phone...even if you spend $5 a month for a year or 2 plus a deductible...it still doesn't total up to the full retail

Thanks for all the advice.

I have had the same concern in regards to how the swivel would hold up....mainly because it is the first phone like this out on the market, so the first always has a few kinks.
