Is T9 broken?

I think the T9 implementation on the L1200 is somewhat broken. Specifically, the way capitalization is handled is different (and incorrect) from all other phones that use T9.

Try this:
Turn on T9 and start a new message. Type 842817. On the L1200, it comes out as "That'S", but on all other phones it comes out as "That's" (lowercase S). There is no practical way, without turning off T9, to type the lower case S.

Here's another:
Start a new message and type the word "John" (5646). It comes out correct. Now try to type "Hello John". You'll have to switch to uppercase to type the J, but there's no option to capitalize only the next letter. Once you switch to uppercase, type 5, then switch to lower case, it forgets about what you previous...

in your "That'S" example, I see the same thing you do. this is definitely annoying, but I found a way to get around it.

in T9, type in 8418, then *, select the ', then hit 7. that gives "That's"

an extra step, so it is annoying, but it can be done.

as for you next question, there is a way around it. yes, it think it should automatically capitalize "John"

However, it doesn't. So, capitalize, then hit 5 (you get a capital K), then click back to the left so the K is highlighted, then hit 646. It comes out as "John"

If you do not click back to the left, you get "Kmin"

By the way, workarounds mean 'yes, it's broken.' The phone's pretty much a piece of crap.

I really wanted to like the phone. I would have kept it except for T9 being broken and some other UI issues.

I even called LG. The tech rep was nice, but couldn't quite figure out what I was talking about.

I tried calling Tegic, the company that makes T9, to see if they can put pressure on LG to fix the implementation. But Tegic has been recently bought by AOL and no one at AOL knew how to contact them.
