LG VX-8000

I bought a VX-8000 from a neighbor. I verified that the ESN shown under the battery is clear. But now I've gotten confused. If I go into the hidden service menu and look at "Service Pgm" it shows an ESN, and it is different (and longer) than the one under the battery. In fact it's written out over two lines; with a three digit code on the first line and a longer number on the second.

Does anybody understand that? Does this mean that the phone has had it's ESN changed since the label under the battery was printed? I'm so confused .
