Best way to get ringtones without a Data Cable, Cheap!

I've been reading the posts about ringtones and know of yet another way to get ringers. Basically you find a sound clip on the internet, many sites give you samples of music that is on a CD before you buy. Walmart.com is good because the clips are already 30 seconds. right click on the file and change the file extension to .midi and save it to your computer. then just send an email with the file attached to your_phone_number@vzwpix.com just like a regular pix msg. open it up when it gets to your phone and just go to options/save sound. It saves it directly to your ringers folder, and they sound great. it does use a pix msg though, so there is a small charge.

after you have your 30 second clip of whatever song, drag the song to your desktop. then it will probably come up as songname.mp3 with a picture of whatever your designated music player is. right click the icon on your desktop go to re-name, then change the .mp3 to .mid hit enter and something will come up are you sure you want to change the file extension and hit yes. then drag the file to an e-mail. also make sure your e-mail service is up-to date, some people had problems with older versions. hope this helps

I'm having troubles with this as well.

I can't change the file type. Seems like it is permanently a .wsx file.

Did they change something, or am I doing it wrong?

When you're at Walmart's music website, right click the link for the song. Go to "Save Target As" The filename should be something like "0080349411232.01.02.002" and the "Save as type:" should be "MPEG Layer 3 Audio" or mp3. Change the file type to All Files. Then for the filename change it to "Songname.midi" Then hit save. That should do it for you.

I also just emailed myself the song in .mp3 form, and that works too, but the sound quality isn't nearly as good as midi.

you can also download the full song from limewire and then use itunes to make the 30 second clip, then drag the song over to your desktop change the file extension on your computer desktop and then drag the file over to your e-mail and then send it to your phone...works great for me 😁 😎

make sure you have a steady 3 bars of signal, if you only have 1 or 2 it usually doesn't work.

I did this and it worked...only problem is that the resultant file played noticeably quieter than the standard ringtones. Is this b/c the bit rate (changed to 64), the file conversion process (name change as opposed to any formal software conversion? Other possibilities re: why it's quiet?

Make sure that you're usuing a midi file instead of an mp3. For some reason, mp3's play very quietly as ringtones. Follow the directions in my previous posts about how to save it as a .midi.

I mailed my self the 30 second clip renamed to .mid no prob and can play it, at regular volume, excellent quality but when I try save as sound, it says the file size is too big and it can only be a maximum of 30Kb, The file size is currently 702Kb at 192Kbp/s Reducing the bitrate to 64 and changing the sampling to 3200 and stereo to mono only makes the sample size 232kb, no where near small enough, my sample is 30 seconds. So even if i had these reducded quality level i would need to make the clip just 3.8 seconds (approximately) long to work, how did you get around this?

When i download mp3 clips off of walmart as midi they wont play on my computer at all. Then i send them to my phone and they wont play either. But mp3 will work on my comp and on my phone.

I have sent an mp3 file and it works, but i would like to have midi instead, when i try to open the pix message it says "failed to play pix message" and wont let me hear or save it at all.

Any help?

I emailed a 30 sec clip to my phone and it worked fine. When I tried to repeat with other clips a few days later it didnt. I got a message saying there was a 30K maximum file size. But the 1st one I sent was 340Kb. I tried sending the 1st clip again and it worked fine again the 2nd time. So after much messing around I figured out that it was something to do with the length of the clip. When I knocked 5 seconds off the phone took them just fine. Didnt matter if the file was 96 or 128kbs either. So you may want to try and shorten your clips a little.

Now, can anyone tell me how to delete a sound file now that I have more than one copy of the same thing...?
