Hope this helps:
-Get any mp3 song.
-open with iTunes.
-click on "Edit"
-go to "Preferences"
-select the "Importing" tab
-under "Import Using:", select "MP3 Encoder"
-under "Setting" go to "Custom"
Now I usually select a 64kbps stereo bit rate (and leave the rest the same),
but you can experiment here with the sound quality etc.
-hit "OK", then "OK"
-now right-click the song that you want in iTunes
and select "Get Info"
-Go to the "Options" tab
-Now at the bottom it has the Start and Stop times
This is where you select the portion of the song that you want.
I think the max ringtone is like 30 seconds. make sure to check both boxes.
(Sometimes I increase the volume adjustment as well to make it louder)
-click Ok
-R...

I'm kinda new at this. I followed your instructions and emailed it to my cell #. I was then directed to the vzwpix.com website and the midi shows up in the inbox there.

How do I then get this file into my phone to save it as a ringtone?

That means your phone has not been set up to recieve pictures yet...sounds dumb its not it happened to me with two new phones on two seperate occasions. Bring it in and ask a tech to help. You could also try calling 611 and having a tech step you through some adjustments.

I have the cdm 9000 and have been doing this since I had the phone, which by the way is the best phone I ever had - too bad it was only on sale for a few weeks. I think you can do this with the cdm-8940, go to Howard Forums, they have the instructions on how to do it.

never mind, i figured it out. you need to go to options then save sound (i think) then put a filename and it becomes a tone. This is really cool!

I was able to successfully follow all of the instructions, but when I mailed it to phone#@vzwpix.com...I received an error message back:

"Content Type not allowed::ContentType audio/mp3 is not supported"

Any ideas? I'm trying this on a 610...that's probably the problem. Just not sure.

(Can't order my 8000 yet, stupid employee accounts)

this is how it's done In itune go to the edit tab, then preferences then the importing tab. import using: leave as MP3 encoding. setting: choice custom, on stereo bit rate choice 64kbps.. sample rate 44KHz.leave every thing the same. the song can not exceed 40 seconds.at the end you can type .MIDI or .MID it doesn't matter. but you still have to follow the direction from above. injoy the new songs on your phone.ALL YOU GUYS ARE COOL 😎 😎

If you are getting an error, then your problem most likely IS in converting it. I doubt you did it correctly.

Check again all the conversion steps and make sure you have done each one properly. What program did you use for modifying the file?

by nine178 Oct 15, 2004, 10:04 PM

I dont know if you all know about this 30 sec mp3 free music clip trick or not, but here it is. I can not take credit for this, I actually found it on another forum and think its worth spreading.
For free 30 sec mp3 music:
-Go to Walmart.com, search under Music, do any kind of specific search like sound effects or broad search like rock.
-Click on any album and scroll down, walmart allows you to listen to 30 seconds of almost every song on every album.
-To listen first just left click on the side on the song where it says "mp3 audio" winamp will pop up and allow you to hear it.
-If you like it than right click on the "mp3 audio"...and save it as either a mid, or as a m...
