I am thinking about buying off Ebay

This phone is available on Ebay and I am thinking about bidding for one.

Does anyone on this forum think it is a bad idea to buy one at this time?

Has anyone seen the codes to put this on the Cingular network?

Any other input would be great....Thanks.

I saw the same thing on Ebay and put in a bid for the phone. but in the end the price went up to around $ 1,300. There are a lot of test models in the U.S. and those are the phones that are on Ebay as well as the U.K. be carefull there are those nuts overseas who will email you and ask you to send money by western union and they will sell you the phone cheap. thats a no no. 😲

Most of the Ebay auctions are frauds, especially the ones that end at around $300 and ask that you send emails to a seperate address, and not through the ebay email system.
Once you do this, they ask you to send the money through western union.
Not only are you off the ebay auction system, which means you have no way of getting back at them if no product is sent, you are also ineligible for the paypal insurance since you didn't use them either.

And from the looks of it, the MPX/MPX 300 may have some issues, anyway.

I think you've answered your own question. You're not sure if you'll be able to put this on the Cingular network. Ebay isn't necessarily the best place to buy a brand new, highly desirable cell phone. So, yes...we think it's a bad idea.

P.S. Price, man! Price! You'll have to eliminate food for a couple of weeks to buy this thing off Ebay.

First, everything everybody has said so far is absolutely true. You need to be careful who you deal with or they will rip you for all you're worth.

Second, I think buying now is a bad idea. A VERY bad idea. Think about it. Right now desire for the phone is at its apex. Strong demand means a higher price. If you wait for the phone to hit US markets, chances are the price will be a few hundred dollars less than you are seeing now on ebay.

So if I haven't been very clear so far, I'll say it again just for emphasis: WAIT.

I am forced to agree with muchdrama and others...purchasing this device so early from overseas or even in the U.S. isn't playing it safe. Motorola hasn't officially released this for sale, so not only is it a risk at not receiving it, but you won't get any warranty support from Moto since it isn't licensed for use in the U.S. markets yet. Be safe, not sorry! Wait for the public release and you'll probably save several hundred dollars and bypass the risk of getting scammed.

Until next time -

Chris

Thanks for all the input. The more I thought about the idea throughout the day, the more ite seemed like a bad idea.

Anyone have any idea when this will be released?

Any advice as to whether I should wait for this or buy the Audiovox 5600 SMT?

I have a new Audiovox 5600 (AT&T) for sale. I only used it for 2 days. I liked it, but I much prefer a touch screen. (MY P800) and I also have the Motorola V505 and I am thinking about getting the Sony Ericisson P910a. If you are interested in purchasing the Audiovox 5600 contact me at getdiva@aol.com

Please sell it on eBay - where it belongs! Even though I am not sure of how the MPX will perform, I would personally probably hold off and say pass on the Audiovox at this time. The MPX, despite my personal peeves, will probably be a much better device than the Audiovox.

Hope this helps!
