NO HIGHSPEED GPRS Solution!!!

How can Motorola attempt to compete with the HP, Nokia, etc. solutions if they don't have a valid highspeed data solution? WiFi is nice when it's available in the area. With networks currently testing their 3G networks, Moto should be on the frontline ready to capitalize.

The Nokia communicator: Wifi, EDGE
The HP PPC Phone: Wifi, EDGE
Treo 650: sdio wifi, EDGE
etc...

I would at least have thought that since Moto delayed release of the MPx, they would have done something smart like introduce UTMS/HPS... something or other to out shine all the others hands down.

Well, I'm going to take a wait and see attitude with the next generation of Moto products b/c dropping $300-400 (maybe more w/ contract) every 6-8 months for someones p...

GPRS is supposedly "high speed" but in my opinion it's quite slow. Like horribly slow.

Since when is GPRS high speed?

Exactly my sentiments! GPRS should be trashed in favor of a highspeed solution. Man the marketing guys for Moto really miss the target.

The phone would have been perfect if it had Edge and was a world phone. I couldn't figure that out myself this phone is obviously for the business user, who obviously would be conscious of these missing features, WTF gives? This is capitalism at it's worse Moto believes the phone will sell anyway, so why bother.

Obviously he's talking about EDGE which is basically a layer on top of GPRS. My class 8 EDGE phone delivers up to 118Kb/s. Class 10 is around 200kb/s+. I believe that would qualify as highspeed for cell networks as only the new Verizon network is faster (300-500Kb/s)... and that's only available in limited areas in the US.
