I was trying to find out some information on the MPx220, I read a few months ago about the recall and I was wondering if the problem(s) had been fixed and what the problems were. Can anyone give me some information?

on 9/12, according to a cingular rep in another forum (for the nokia 6101/6102) - hopefully they have worked out some of the bugs! this is a sweet phone that seems to have everything I want! 🙂

It's back with a 50$ rebate direct from Cingular.

Don't order from Wirefly a less than 15% customer satisfaction rating just doesn't cut it.

I know, I logged into my premier and I saw it as well.

i think i am going to get it. the only thing i am torn between is this or the nokia 6682, which has a better camera, seems a bit more powerful, but is a stick phone.

i think i am done with sticks, and i am not sure i need all that power, i don't want a full on pda. plus i already have a great digital camera.

but i do love nokia phones.

Hmm... logging in to my Premier account (Dell), I don't see the MPx220, but I do see the new Nokia 6682. Doesn't list many pertinet stats on that phone, though.... nothing about BT and only a small listing of GPRS so it probably doesn't have EDGE, at least according to Cingular's site.

that's weird! the mpx220 shows up in my premier account (university of california)...

anyway the mpx220 didn't previously support EDGE but from what i have seen it gets pretty decent transfer rates using its GPRS.

the new updates mostly make the phone more stable, increase volume etc. i think the issue was that there were a lot of issues that required firmware fixes, cingular isn't really comfortable having customers self-upgrade, so they took it off their market list until motorola sorted it out.

6682 is a very nice phone though. really torn between these two right now. kinda leaning towards the 6682, even though i kind of want a flip phone this time, since nokia has such great quality and i love their interfaces.

The MPx220 still shows on my job's Premier site for $224. here in Balto. The ROKR is nice, the Nokia 6682 is very nice. The MPx220 is a clamshell Windows phone which sets it apart from other phones, if the problems have been corrected on this old phone. Still deciding...

YOU AND ME BOTH!

not sure if i want a flip (like everyone else i know has) that has a monster under the hood or if i want to stay with sticks like i have always had.

they both have their pros/cons

we also have the sony ericsson s710a to choose from too with its funky swivel design.

think it's gonna be between the mpx220 and the 6682 for me though.

Kev, I just saw the posts in the Nokia 6682 forum that you and the others posted as I was just about to order the MPx220. 😳 I had to go with the deal on the Nokia. That saved me over $100. Thanks.

did you get your 6682 yet? if so do you like it? i am really torn as i am not sure if i want a flip this time or not. i have always had sticks and like not having to open it to answer a call but usually my friends mock me for having a stick, they all have flips. still, i think the 6682 is more powerful.

I cancelled my order with LetsTalk when they pushed back the delivery date of the 6682. 🙄 I ordered the MPx220 from Cingular yesterday and it's in my possession now. 😳 I have to let it charge up for 8 hours. I wish you the best of luck with your 6682. I was not prepared to wait it out for a week or more.
The MPX220 looks much better than I thought it would. I'll do a review after I get a chance to use it.

hey chicostyk, thanks for offering to write a reveiw. i am still torn between getting the updated mpx220 or the nokia 6682. they both seem like great phones. i am actually worried a bit about the size - do you feel the mpx220 to be clunky at all?

cheers

Personally, I like the size of the MPx220 much more than I thought I would. I thought it would be big and clunky, but it's much more sleek than I expected. I'm going from a Motorola i830 which is smaller and I actually prefer the size of the MPx220.
I'm at work now and I left the phone home to charge up. I plan to use it this evening after which I can make better comments. The one thing I came to realize out of all this is that I am probably happier with the clamshell form factor phone because it is what I am accustomed to. I'd rather spend the extra money and be done with it at this point. BTW, Check out the Amazon.com link on the SHOP tab of this forum. I believe they offer a $150 rebate if the phone is in stock.

Hey Chico... hurry up and post your review!!!!! 😁 My Audiovox SMT 5600 is an old AT&T version and has recently started dropping calls like crazy. I'll likely need to migrate to Cingular & I'm ready to do this, but want to know if the MPX220 is any better than the nasty reviews I've read on the previous releases. Should I buy it, or just get another SMT 5600 (which I love BTW). I wanted the MPX220 when it was first released but decided against it because of speaker and earpiece volume issues. Is the speaker volume really loud now? Or is it still too low to hear? Let me know, thanks! DP

I have had this phone for around 8 months. Bought it used for $180 (as I do all my phones).

Its the best phone I have ever had. The features are amazing. It locks up every once in awhile (Windows OP SYS go figure) But not an issue.
The pictures are amazing for a phone and includes aperture and zoom adjustment before the shot.

The ONLY complaint I have is that you cannot MAKE a call from the BT headset like my Sony T637. That is a major flaw I hope is fixed with the newer release.

Hopefully I will be able to buy one of those in a year or so for $180 used!

The only difference between the first release and the second release of the phone is an updated software version. You could reflash your phone and it would be just as good as a second release phone.

You can find the link to do so here:

Good luck! 🙂

It looks like my review is on page 5 of the User Reviews. I've only had the phone a couple of days so there is more to learn. I am overall pleased with the phone and I hope the review is useful for someone. 😎
