ATT vs. Cingular

Waiting for the 220 to come to my area. Can anybody tell me if ATT has any advantage over Cingular? Or vice versa? Either in service or new features yet to come. Thanks to all.

Att & Cingular are one in the same now--the merger is supposed to be finalized Nov 1, 2004--so It doesn't really matter which one you choose--You'll ultimately end up being a cingular customer. Hope this helps 😁

Everyone that I have talked to at both ATT & Cing. say that until aprox Jan ATT can use Cong towers but not thother way around. I have friends on Cing and am finding that to be true.

That's not true. ATTWS customers are seeing Cingular on their displays preparing for the merger. Cingular customers can roam on ATTWS and vice versa (except in overlapping markets) but why would Cingular have the display read ATTWS, currently it may show as Cingular extend. After the merger both networks will be available to all.

What this person is saying is very very misleading. While you may roam on a no competing market tower you in CA for example and a MAJOR market the whole state is practically a competing market. The advantage is to be with ATT and be able to use both towers. I use no less than 10K minutes per month and can tell you that having both services makes a world of difference. Whaile what she said is technically correct and even in some instances there is sharing that vast majority of Cingular customers do not and will not have duality until aprox JAN. Do not be misled

I am not being misleading, in fact after the merger, we will have excess towers in CA in the competing markets and have already set up the deal to sell those additional ATT towers to T mobile, then are customers both ATT and Cingular will use the remaining towers owned by Cingular. Those same ATT towers will be restricted by T mobile, so ugh how will the ATT customers use the T mobile towers???

Im not going to get into this with you. You have over heard things and or sat in some meeting and just dont get it. But thats ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I used to own a high teck wireless company and im telling you that you are being misleading. Your regurgitating information that you have heard but dont fully understand. ATT customers will be able to use the Cingular post merger towers just fine, as they do now. That is the beauty of GSM. AS long as their phone supports the frequency they are good to go. The merger is not going to stop my phone from working now or into the future.
