So since many of us HATED this phone after a few months...

Why would you buy another Motorola??? The v710 was my first AND LAST motorola. Aside from the software being a bit splotchy at times, the crapshoot of a camera (and don't give me the excuse that you buy a phone for the phone and not the camera b/c LG and Samsung have proven over and over that you can have a great phone AND a great camera), and the poorly designed battery charger, this phone did get very good reception everywhere and had pretty good customization capabilities. I hear the RAZRs (even the newer ones) are having some common issues with functionality as well. I ended up buying a vx9800 with my settlement and I've been all the happier. I had a vx6000 back when it was released and it was at that time I fell in love with LG. An...

I did not buy this phone for the camera. I have a camera for that. I actually like the v710. Motorola seems to be the only company that doesn't allow Verizon to butcher their menu system. I've never had a software problem. But the charger is a pain in the neck sometimes and that is my only complaint. (Besides the limited bluetooth of course.) The great thing about Motorola though is that they do not require you to buy all new accessories when you change phones. All of their ports are the same.

I did like LG a lot back with the 6000. But now that Verizon uses the same crappy menu system with every phone (except Mototrola) I refuse to buy one. I wonder how many problems with the RAZR happened because of the switched out menu system.

Yeah I totally agree about the menu system. I don't necessarily dislike the layout of the menu options, it's more the red upper and lower bars that you can't get rid of or change the color. I mean AT LEAST let me change the color of the damn bars if you're going to have them. With that said, the v710 had that poopy outside screen that only let you switch between preprogrammed crappy pictures...which a lot of people complained about as well. Out of curiosity, what phone did/are you getting with your settlement benefit?

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me of the god awful bright red bars! That may be even worse than the menu system. Why shouldn't we be able to change the color? Do we need to remember how much Verizon controls us every time we look at the phone?

Just for fun, I've gone into the stores and asked the salesman if I could change the color of the bars (and also to see if they finally allow you to do it). They ALWAYS respond yes. Then I attempt to change the bars and fail. Then I ask them to do it and they usually respond with "through the menu." I then insist they show me and then they fiddle around with it for a while and then they grumble "I guess you can't."

Note: Same thing happened with v710 bluetooth. ME: "Will this work with my computer'...

I didn't buy this phone for the camera, but I didn't want to pay for a camera phone that had an unusable camera either. The camera on the 710 was a POS and Motorola should be ashamed. The LED flash is a bad joke.

I didn't mind the menus so much, and I liked the voice dialing, but most other functions were not particularly useful. What a waste.

The outside screen was a big disappointment. If I could make it unique, great, but as it was, it was fairly useless to have that quality of a screen for what it was used for.

Don't get me started on charging. The tiny charging connection is the world's worst. I'd lose connection and not notice it, and not have juice when I needed it.

On the inside screen, the buttons marred the scre...

The only thing I really hate about the V710 is the lack of OBEX/OPP. I guess I'm not thrilled about the thickness of the phone, too, but that's pretty minor. Oh, and since I bought it I've done a bit more international travel and realized that a GSM phone will serve me better on that score, too. Oh, and the charger connector does indeed also suck.

So pretty much all those complaints are addressed by switching to a GSM carrier and getting a RAZR. Maybe once the refund actually comes I'll even splurge on an unlocked v3i, since getting a base RAZR doesn't actually cost anything and we MAKE $50 on a V360 for my wife. And other carriers have better plans, too...

What puzzles me is why anyone would continue to do business with a carrier whi...

I can't speak for others, but in my case, a LARGE factor in staying with Verizon is "In Calling".

Unless I were to convince all of my family, my business partners, and friends to switch as well, I just can't see giving up unlimited free calls to those people (seriously, almost everyone I call is on Verizon).

I'm sure it makes up for Verizon's more expensive plan (in my case at least).

I've had my V710 since the hour it went on sale and have loved it ever since. It's a great little phone.

Camera? I could not care less. Only use it to snap photos of something I may be shopping for or even the packaging to remember model numbers etc. In a way, I use it as a short-term notebook.

The reception is GREAT, rarely have a dropped call, the speakerphone is GREAT, a few software glitches here and there but nothing that wasn't solved with a simple re-boot (like any normal computer...cell phones like this really are basically a PDA in a sense). I've owned three cell phones in my life, the last two being Moto's simply because they had the features I was looking for at the time. (I was actually VERY happy with what the bluetooth o...
