V710 and mobile Phone Tools

Ok, I have a V710. And the feature I like best is the voice recognition. It is outstanding.

And I have the HF800 Bluetooth speakerphone and the HF820 Bluetooth headset. And they both are cool. The mic and speakers could be better though. Combined with the V710s voice recognition (this VR is years ahead of anything I've ever seen) it provides an unmatched handsfree experience.

Now the problem. I would like the sync the phone's phonebook and calendar with Outlook. And I would like to download pictures.

I have Mobile Phone Tools with the USB cable. I downloaded all the updates and it is now version 2.21f. And that version supports the V710.

However, I have been totally unable to get it the recognize the phone in any meaningful way. ...

Motorola sells it here: http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc e3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=231366&prmenbr=126& accessories_cgrfnbr=22&zipcode=&phoneID=&sear ch_string=27,29&type=239522

You should be able to get it from many other places too, I would try www.mobileplanet.com and such.

This phone uses the same connector as most phones like the V60, the old timeport I used to have (I just wish I could find my serial cable), etc.

So is this cable the only way to get mp3s to the phone? (sorry, NEWBIE!)

Unfortunately with the current verion of mobile phonetools, you can't transfer multimedia to the V710 -- only contacts, calendar, etc.

The only way I've been able to get anything to my phone was via USB.

On my Mac, used iSync 1.5 to sync my addressbook and iCal. Worked well!

I've also been able to email to the @vzwpix.com address mp3 ringtones and pics but only when they are under 200-220k which is OK for ring tones since they only need to be 20-30 sec. Not sure if this limit is due to receiving files via messages or because I don't yet have the Transflash card.

I had a problem with MPT inconsistently recognizing my phone. In other words, sometimes it seemed to connect and be able to read the contact list from my phone, and other times it would retry several times and fail.

I uninstalled the software, then reinstalled the base version, and then each of the live updates up to the current one (2.21f). Since then, it seems to have worked fine.

You might want to give this a try.

Yes, exact same problem here. Didn't make sense at all. Didn't reconzie the phone at all after the second time I connected it. Tore my hair out trying to fix it. One thing that might have helped was manually setting the phone type in the setup menu. I'm not sure exactly where it is (probably "change modem").

Mobile Phone Tools contains the driver but doesn't install it correctly.

The fix:

1. Install MPT and update repeatedly until all the updates are installed (currently 2.21f, however that may change). Do not install the phone from MPT when it asks.

2. Go to Control Panel/Add Hardware. Let it find the phone.

3. When it asks where to find the driver, select the option to tell it the directory. Then point it to the directory "inf" in the Mobile Phone Tools directory. This should be C:\Program Files\Mobile Phone Tools\inf.

4. The utility should install three drivers: Motorola Phone, Motorola USB Modem, and I believe Motorola CDMA 1X Modem.

5. The start MPT. Select menu, and select new phone. Plug in the phone at the correct point...

David, I have a fully registered version of mPT 2.01. I keep running Live Update, but the highest version I have is 2.01 (build 04011300296😎. I do not have an inf subdirectory under C:\Program Files\Mobile Phone Tools and the only file my XP SP-2 computer seems to install is the Motorola USB modem.

How did you get your mPT to update to version 2.21f? Can you provide any guidance/suggestions for me? Once you got mPT to correctly identify the V710, can you use the Multimedia Center to transfer pictures and ring tones?

Thanks so much for your help!

Mike

There is only one device that will show up even for systems running correctly, Motorola USB Modem which is for Mobile PhoneTools, Windows and other Modem/Fax software. When you use p2kMan or Motorola's PST, it will deactivate the Motorola USB Modem and then a USB Composite Device will show up under USB Controllers then there will be the Motorola USB Devices and a bunch of devices.
