I can't tell you the "real deal" but I can tell you my experience. I got the phone last friday at Radio Shack in NYC (23rd St.) They would NOT honor my new every 2, even though I was eligible. They did however call Verizon to see if they could work out some sort of deal so I could get the $100 onto my account as a credit since I have been a longtime customer, but to no avail. I wanted the phone, didn't want to wait, and got it anyhow with a new 2yr agreement.....but I am sure everyone has a different experience and story- thats just mine

I moved to NJ about 4 months ago. In my home state of Louisiana. RS would not honor Verizon's NE2 and when this phone came out last week I hit RS to see if they would honor the NE2 program. They would not.

Here is a interesting footnote. I am wondering if RS not honoring NE2 is going to change. According to Verizon's website. All customers sense June '04 that sign for a two year agreement contract are automatically signed up for the NE2 program.

Now that may only be when the customer signs up directly though Verizon (through the website or company stores) not though a third party like Joe's Phones or Radio Shack.

It's not RS that honors the NE2, it's Verizon, and if you sign up w/2yr contract, you are automatically enrolled. You can call Verizon to verify this. I got my v710 w/$100 upgrade and the NE2 w/$70 MIR. = $149. All from RS on 7/29/04.

PS, the $100 credit was put on my account by Verizon not RS. And the $70.00 MIR was on RS receipt. I paid $319.00 + tax at RS, but will end up paying $149 after credit was applied to my account and I receive the MIR. Again, RS does not honor NE2, it's a Verizon promotion, not RS.

Yes, how did you get them to give you a credit? Any special words that convinced them? I'd like to try. I was also eligible for ne2, but decided to get it early from RS for the free headset offer. If I could get another 100 bucks, it would be really nice.
Thanks
