preferred roaming list update

I was reading through the VZW site today and found this.

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/dispatcher?action ... »

They say you should dial *228 every couple of months to update your "preferred roaming list". Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea? Does it update the firmware (and get rid of the copy option)?

Thanks...

PS. Does anyone know how to complain to VZW about lack of service in a particular area?

Do your "*228" update no less than once a month! I do it with my US Cellular. I did it when I had Verizon Wireless as well! Once a month is fine! Hope that helps! 🙂

PRL update is unlikely to help your service problems, but won't hurt anything. Give it a try.

If you are in a servive hole, good luck getting anything done about it. If you keep calling their customer service, they will eventually send someone to your area to perform a test. They will say that their findings were within their standards and that they "do not guarantee service inside of buildings" and will also probably suggest getting a new phone.

PRL updates are not capable of updating your firmware.

Funny enough, I actually like VZW. That said, I do have a connection issue.

My ideal solution would be to make them give me service in my dead zone, but I don't know of any way to make that request...
