hello,
i just received this phone and love it. i am wondering if any of you have tried linking the v180 with a pc. the idea of composing my own mp3 ringtones sounds cool but i dont want to spend thirty dollars for the usb cable and software from motorola just to have it not work. and information or insight would be appreciated. thanks.

My v180 is on order. Does anyone know if I can use any mini usb cable? I have a digital camera (kodak) that has its own cable and was wondering if I can use it insted of shelling out $30. Thanks.

yes, you can use you mini usb 5 pin from your camera with your phone.I've used mine from my palm T-E. If you have a laptop, you can also use your phone as a cell modem.

Yes. I had to eBay in a data cable ($16 including shipping) for wife's V505, but the USB cable for my digital camera worked just fine with my V180. Windows XP did need a driver out of Mobile Phone Tools to recognize each phone, though. Phone Tools' setup balked near the end for each, apparently because XP couldn't recognize the phones. Once I found the driver in the Phone Tools folder and got XP to play nice, the software then finished the individual setups and I was able to transfer pictures and tones without further problem.

yeah, make sure the cable works with the software! Those unknown computer bugs might damage your phone and PC though... however, good thing is there is a nice data kit you can purchase: http://reviews.cnet.com/Mobile_Action_Handset _Manager_9_0_USB_data_suite/4505-3535_7-31355 179-2.html?tag=glance
