V180 Cingular at Wal-Mart

This handset has arrived for sale at Wal-Marts in Houston branded and kitted for Cingular Wireless. This is odd as Cingular has never been listed as a potential provider and is not even listed on the cingular.com website.

Pricing is as yet unknown, but if Cingular's current trend of selling and servicing unlocked world-band handsets holds, the V180 will be sold unlocked.

Unrelated to the subject, I am initially disappointed by this handset's build. The entire device is plastic, and while visually sharper and feature-wise more advanced than the V66, the feel is rather cheap and toy-like. The smaller screen is disappointing when viewed side by side with a VX00 device, and the onboard USB connection point is perplexing in its inclusion...

well the charger is the same as the v220 the parent of this phone but with the camera biult in. same exact phone and now cheper in price. with camera. and no it's not a quad band so it will be locked for cingular service. and i believe they switched chargers b/c of the old plug did not send a good charge or take to long and or would not plug in properly and not charge the phone.

I'm a novice. What does a "locked" phone mean? When you say it will be "locked" for
Cingular service what does that mean?

I believe the mini-USB charging pulg also alows you to charge off your PC USB (i.e. when your synching with MPT or using it as a modem).

Also, using an industry standard plug (mini-USB) is cheaper than a proprietary solution.

My big concern is, what can you do with the USB port. My wife just upgraded to this phone with the misconception that you can move mp3's from the pc to the phone via mini USB. Just to experiment I plugged the phone in through a mini, windows recognized the devise as a Motorola V180, but couldn't find any compatible drivers for it. I'm hesitant on upgrading my phone to this one knowing the USB is only go for "Faxing?". You guys know anything to support the connectivity?
