I've had my VX7000 for 3 months. I bought it via the Verizon website and activated it per the instructions sent. ALl in all, I love the phone.

Call me crazy, but when I first activated the phone, the display on the internal and external LCDs was different than now. The difference happened when I updated my roaming list via *228.

In addition to the banner that everyone complains about, (Which I never did before), the phone used to have a "vibrate mode" icon display on the external LCD when the phone was in vibrate mode. Now, the indicator only appears on the internal display.

When you have no signal, then your phone would say "Vibrate" or "All Sounds Off" instead of VZWireless on the front screen, nothing has changed...

You're not crazy. Your phone is downloading any updates when you call *228. These are mostly tower updates to improve your signal, but sometimes it will update your phone too. I had a motorola phone & after one update I did, the date appeared on it. A later update removed the date.

I use Handset Manager data transfer suite to change my VX7000's wallpaper too. Also, I can upload new ringers to my phone and change the ringers with 128 different instruments....and it only cost me 29 plus shipping... by the way, the model number I have is 8052p.
