Reception problems

My phone had been working perfectly up until a week ago. Before, I always had great reception, but now, my reception is horrible and I get dropped calls all the time. I live very close to a cell tower, so my guess is that the tower is the problem. Verizon is checking it out to see if requires maintenance, but I wanted to check to see if anyone else is having the same problem. If so, then it might be an issue with the phone itself. Please reply if you are having a similar problem or had one in the past.

My wife and I are starting to have reception problem swith our 7000s. Everything was fine for about 2 months and now we can barely get a signal in the house. If a call does make it through it usually drops if we are indoors. We live in Charlotte, NC so there should be no coverage problems. Is this something we can make Verizon fix or are we stuck?

Well, for me, it has been well over 2 months. I had to bother Verizon several times before they finally sent someone out to test the cell tower in my area. It turns out that they will have to build a new one, but they need approval from the local government, so who knows when service will return to normal.

They let me out of my contract, but now I have to shop around for another carrier (probably T-Mobile). I also got some credits on my account, but now that I know that the problem might take months to fix, I can't get additional refunds.

I would suggest bothering them and calling them back until you get someone to send people to check the cell tower in your area. Unfortunately, they can't just set a new one up, so you might cons...

I decided to give up and switch to T-Mobile. Verizon let me out of my contract, so I decided to switch. So far, I have great reception with T-Mobile, but I had to get a Samsung SGH e315. I liked the VX 7000 more, but I need a phone that gets reception. Verizon told me that service is degraded in my area (I live in a big city), so they let me out of my contract.

They said it could be a very long time before service is restored - basically, it sounds like they have to get approval from the local government to build a new cell site (that takes a long time).

I know several other people who made the switch from Verizon to T-Mobile for this same reason. It can't be a coincidence or bad phones if a lot of people are having the same pro...

Cellular phone reception is dependant on your phone's 5/8 of a watt being able to get picked up by a tower that is up to 4 miles away. Maybe a building was built between you and the tower, maybe a tree got taller, could be a cordless phone your neighbor has that's ruining it for you.

Everyone who is having reception issues. Try to doing the *228 update and, if you can, go to the technicians and ask for a software upgrade. If you do the software upgrade they have to note you account and it looks good that made an effort. Calling customer service isn't going to help if you looking for a replacement or something because the technicians make the ultimate call not customer service.

Good luck, hope it helps.

I tried all the steps you suggested. I had a firmware update, I did *228 every day, and I tried hard resets where you take the battery out when the phone is on...

Basically, the phone had perfect reception for months inside my apartment building and then all of a sudden it went from a consistent 4 bars to 1 bar or less with many dropped calls. It ended with Verizon sending a technician out and he confirmed that the cell tower in my immediate vicinity was de-commissioned.

Anyway, I ended up switching to T-Mobile and the verdict is still out on them. I get good reception inside my apartment, so it does appear that it isn't a problem with interference from something like a cordless phone like you suggest.

I am waiting to see how...
