Way to go Nokia, you just built a phone with a built in flashlight and a compass. Next time I go camping I'll make sure I bring this badboy of a phone. Oh wait, when I'm camping I'm in the woods. Guess what Nokia, theres no cellular service in the woods. Why don't you just build a phone with some waterproof matches and a fishing line inside it!

hmm.. Those who do hardcore outdoors stuff would have other tools handy..However it seems to me that most folk who do the whole camping thing (ie families etc), Happen to go where there IS service... Just cause there is a tree doesn't mean that there is no service.. Dolt.

Maybe not in your area, but there are many areas "in the woods" that are covered by GSM. Also, it is a WORLD phone, hence it is usable in other countries too.

This phone, I have to admit looks like crap. The features on it though rocks! Since it is the first PTT phone Nokia has made, i'll give em credit! I am going to get it when it comes out regardless if it is 10 pounds!(MAYBE NOT)

i really dont know how things are going in the usa concerning gsm coverage, but, as an european, i've been using the most out of my sporty 5100 phone (i know it's about 5140, but 5100 has the same features you thought were dumb on the 5140).
imagine me driving by night on a snowy weather and my car breaking down. i have not so many tools there, because it is my wife's; but i have a flashlight, a splash-proof and bump-proof shield on my phone and there's no problem for me to fix the car's problem, while using the phone as a flashligh, right? well, i'm telling you it is, because it just happened to me.

anyway, the 5140 phone looks and feels great, and i just can't wait before i'll get it. i'm an active person, i do a lot of sports, mounta...

I must agree with the others on this one...maybe you aren't too much of a "tech guy" if you don't know that some towers are actually trees. We have them all over here. The phone is awesome and it will work in the boonies, with Cingular that is!
