if you don't mind signing up for a new two year contract, and you can do it through amazon, that might be your best bet for a good deal on this phone. they often offer rebates that bring the total cost of new phones down to $50 or $100. of course, you have to pay activation fees, etc. and deal with a new number (yes?) and sometimes amazon won't cover semi-non-metro areas on a specific phone for awhile.

i, of course, am looking to get bent over on this phone as i am already with cingular and halfway through a different two-year contract.

cingular people - OOC, is there any way around this, or do i just have to bite it if i don't feel like waiting for prices to come down? i like cingular... works well here in bufu so. indiana.

that's an easy one... it's very simple... goto a Cingular Store... and add a line of service to your account and get the phone you want at a discount price.... then the next day call 1-866-CINGULAR and tell them you decided not to keep the service. They will cancel you under the buyers remorse and then tell them you are taking back the phone today.... you won't be charged for it either... trust me I know.... (wink wink)

*ponder* i'm not big on underhanded stuff that gets me into trouble, but how does this work, exactly? do you switch the sim card out of the old phone into the new one?

is there a less sneaky way to get a cheap new phone? (mind - i'm actually okay with social engineering... just not the whole getting into troub...

Before you do something stupid like that, be sure you aren't signing a subscriber agreement with the retailer you are screwing. Keep in mind they are expecting to make about $100 on you, and by cancelling, you screw them in the neighborhood of $300, depending on the phone. Most reputable retailers have a subscriber agreement where they hold your credit card number and if the contract is cancelled and you keep the phone, they will charge you. At my store, it's $300.
