Release date clarification?

Starfire

Does anyone know for sure (or a close estimate) when Cingular will have the v400 available? I have heard from one person it would be available next week, and from another it would be a couple of weeks into the new year at least. I am needing to purchase a phone as soon as possible and the v400 looks perfectly suited to my needs.

Thanks!

I stopped in to the Cingular headquarters office in Santa Monica, CA yesterday. They confirmed a shipping date of 12/22/2003. My assumption is that they will go to the Cingular warehouse, then to the stores. I am setting my expectations on the end of the 1st week on Jan.

Anyone want to make bets?

🙂 Matt

I'll make a bet...
I'll bet I can go to 5 different Cingular stores and get at least 5 different answers as to the release date. In fact I'll further wager that I'll get at least 3 different price quotes and several conflicting stories about various features!

OK, it's actually a suckers bet....I've already experienced all the above. AARRGGGGG...still waiting...

Sorry guys, just blowing off steam.

This forum is probably the best source of "Real" information.

I work for Cingular, and from what I have been hearing, they are trying to push for a last minute release before Christmas. I had heard reports from my corporate office that the phone would be available for STORES to order hopefully by the 15th, but I don't think that happened. Sit tight, because it will be here in the next two weeks... or so they say.

I just placed my order for my store for the v400, but SHIP DATE from our memphis warehouse isn't until the 29th (ie, in store around the 3rd at the EARLIEST!). There is a limited supply and supposedly they are having network issues in the LA area with the phone. The price for cingular stores (company owned, not authorized agents/resellers) is $199.99 at register with a 2 year agreement, with $100 mail-in rebate. if you go to an agent, it will be in the $250 range (and you will sign 2 contracts=double cancellation fee!).

PLEASE READ MY LAST REPLY. I am an Assistant Manager on the west coast. I work for a company owned store, not an agent or re-seller.

yeah, I don't know how agents or re-sellers operate on the west coast, but here on the east coast, I work for a major agent, and our prices on the phones are exactly the same as a corporate retail store. And our cancellation fee is the same, too. You have the choice of signing for a one or two year contract. So whatever the retail location offers on the east coast, in our market, is exactly the same in an authorized agent location.

Well the 2 major agents i am aware of have you sign a 2-in-one contract (although you only sign one SET of papers): part is a contract to the AGENT, the other part is to CINGULAR WIRELESS, LLC. THUS when you cancel, you pay cingular $150 and the AGENT $150 = $300. Go straight to the company. Agents suck. If you work for an agent, go work for the company. 🙂
