Nick, I am also a newbie. I bought the phone new but it doesn't get the bars my "now waterlogged" V551 used to get. I assume it needs a firmware update or something?

Can you explain how to get the update and where to get the cord to connect to a PC?

PS. Yes, my V440 is unlocked and SIMM card was in place.
