Custom ringtones, problem getting them to work

Anton

I just got a V400 and used the MPT to upload some wallpapers on it, very happy with that.
On the same time I uploaded some sounds but I've been having problems with them.
I can upload a WAV file, and the phone will play it, but it won't let me choose is as a ring tone (i.e. the 'Apply as ring tone' option doesn't show when I select it, like it does on other existing MIDI and MP3 files on my phone).
I converted it to an MP3 (with bitrate=32Kbps) and uploaded that to the phone.
When I select the MP3, the option 'Apply as ring tone' does show up, but when I select to play the sound or show details on it, it says it is corrupted and asks me if I want to delete it.
So, is there something additional I should know about converting sounds to MP...

Hmm. I use Audacity myself to convert sound clips and pieces of songs to small compressed MP3s. Never had a problem like you're describing.
With Audacity I convert it to mono and save as 48kbps MP3, after trimming the length and adjusting the volume of it and making it fade in and fade back out. Every one has worked fine on my phone. I'm using the v3.93 lame_enc MP3 encoding DLL. Of course using File->Export as MP3 to save it to MP3.
Sorry I don't have any more constructive info to give you there.

I've tried 48Kbps as well (and still in mono), after I read you reply, but still nothing. LAME DLL is v3.94. I've tried file sizes as small as 48K.
When exporting the MP3 I've also tried both formats available (ID3v1 and ID3v2).
So my next question would be, do I need to enter any info on that last page for Title, Artist, Album, Track Number, Gear, Genre, Comments? Cause I leave everything blank and use the default Genre (=Blues)

Thanks again,
Anton

Ok, I just got it working.
The trick is that it's not enough to set the Bit Rate to 48 in the Preferences/MP3 Export Setup, you also have to set the Project rate to 48000 on the main window.
So I'm happy now, I got my funky song clips playing as MP3 ringtones on my cell. Which is why I got the V400 to begin with (and the MPT)
Thanks guys!

Sorry I couldn't help more.
Strange I hadn't run across that problem before; I'll have to remember that.
Thanks for the info on why it wasn't working. I appreciate it.
