Hi all. I am new to this board. A Cingular rep actually told me to post here, as he/they could no longer help me!!! Anyhow, I took a customer service rep's word about a month ago that if I bought a 6820 on the open market that it would be compatible with Cingular's network, but they did not YET sell it. So, I bought an "AT&T" 6820 privately. The rep was only partly right. It makes & receives calls, texts, WAP browser's OK, wireless modem with the DKU-5 cable's fine, but no matter what they do, 2 issues remain:
-they cannot, no way, no how, make the phone/ Bluetooth work for use as a wireless modem. I have a TrendNet TBW-101UB dongle. The phone and computer are definitely paired, I can synch contacts with PC Suite just fine. But, they have g...

Great idea. Their server is currently sporadic, but I did see that there are a lot of post-ers, hopefully someone knows something.

Thank you. How exactly do I get there? The problem still appears to be that AOL does not have the phone as one of their compatible ones.

Greetings from someone in a similar position. I also purchased an unlocked 6820, only to be disappointed in many ways. I do not know where you are, but I am in Jacksonville, FL. In my market, the phone will apparently not function on the 1900 megahertz frequency - only on 850. I also could not use the phone in the Bahamas (which uses 1900), but my family's Cingular phones worked fine. I would be interested in your feedback here.

As to the Bluetooth issue, just today I went through the process of connecting my phone to my Dell Axim X5 using an Ambicon Bluetooth compact flash adapter and was able to get it to work (i.e. - dial a number and see the phone as a modem). However, I am not using AIM, rather am using the Pocket PC version of...

Well,, I have a new 'Cingular 6820' .. in NY. Keep in mind, this phone operates on AT&T's GSM network and was not configured to roam to Tmobile's network up here (Cingular does not have their own network here). This is a brnad new model.

So, maybe this will help regarding the AIM client that is built in:

Under AIM/Settings/GPRS address-

There is a text msg number setting but I think they may be different from 1 phone to the next.

I have noticed that the client software is lacking a few main features too: ie. showing a person as away/idle

The updates of the online/offline status is not very accurate... could be a AOL/wireless carrier issue .
