Buying this phone from Amazon

So I just had a chat with a Cingular agent - who was trying to convince me that it is better in my interest to buy the phone from them directly than going with a third party. Apparently he cant tell me why - but if I did my due diligence I would figure out its better with them.

The way I see it is
Buy from Cingular with 2 year contract
Cost : $139

Buy from amazon (rebate does NOT require 2 year contract - requires a ONE YEAR contract)
Cost : -$50
Problem : AMazon website does not allow me say that I don't want a 2 year but only a 1 year contract.

Buy from letstalk.com (with 1 year contract)
Cost : $79

I don't care about insurance on the phone and all other such crap. I want the phone cheap - with as small a contract as ...

I would make sure that the phone from letstalk.com is not a refurb. The normal cost on this phone is over $180.

Is that a normal practice of these dealers to sell refurbed phones?

The previous phones i have had from Amazon (when I have been on T-Mo) have been all new.

Haven't gone to Letstalk.com ever - but I would assume they are running a similar business model to Amazon when it comes to cell phones.

How is it that they are able to offer suchhuge discounts that the carriers themselves can't?

I do really want to get the 6230 but as of now
1. Amazon - wont sell without 2 year contract - so they are out for me.
2. LetsTalk.com is definitely cheaper than Cingular themselves with a 1 year contract.

But the Cingular rep that I spoke to definitely has me in a bind - and its true - I need an answer to why the dealers can sell for much che...

Well, as I've ordered one from Amazon, here's my guess: Amazon's kickback from Cingular for the 2-year contract is a lot more than the $150 rebate Amazon gives us. Also I was told I couldn't get a 6230 at a Cingular store anymore so Amazon may be moving last remaining stock, and that *might* include them being refurbished.

Since I need a Bluetooth phone for my car, and refurbished-and-working will do if they end up paying me $50 to take one off their hands, I'm OK with the deal. None of the new and much much more expensive phones I'd like (Nokia 9300 for one) are available, so as a 'star...

I would have got it locally for support but they wanted 120 AR.

Amazon would be my second choice but they dont sell a family plan.

Ended up going with Wirefly/inphonic. Bad reviews but how can you argue with FREE!!!!!

Mine didn't show any sign of being refurbished, but for a device that REQUIRES a wired earphone to use the FM radio not to provide one does seem rather cheap.

If new ones do come with an earphone, then mine's not new...
