Will 6230 play WMA files?

Does anyone know if the MP3 player on the 6230 will play WMA files as well? The specs only indicate MP3 and AAC formats, but WMA is so common I hoped it might be undocumented.

Another long-shot question. Any Audible.Com users out there try to listen to Audible (*.aa) files on the 6230? I listen to the NY Times every morning on the train, and it would be great to carry one less device.

I am a prospective buyer, and am considering the Motorola MPx220 due to it's WMA and future Audible.Com compatibility ("In Development" according to Audible). But the MPx220 gets horrible reviews (some even with 1.x firmware), where the 6230 has almost all positive reviews.

Thanks in advance- I've learned a lot from these boards. 😳 -bryan

No it doesn't. You can download WMA files from the net but then you would have to burn it to CD then "rip" the CD to create an MP3 file to use on the phone.

Thanks for the info and your time. I will probably just transcode without burning, using something like Goldwave (below).

SIDE NOTE FOR AUDIBLE USERS:
Since posting my question, I've found how to convert Audible.Com *.aa files to MP3. An older version (5.x) of "River Past Audio Converter" will do it, but finding that older version is hard and costs $30. You can do it for free (though I encourage everyone to pay/register) with Goldwave, a shareware audio editor. I have copied below the best instructions I found. Note that I and many others have been able to do this WITHOUT reverting to an earlier version of AudibleManager (I have v4.x), so you might skip that part and give it a try.

I am also an audible.com subscriber and plan to do the same. However, if you are listening to a 3-hour-long MP3 and then need to take a phone call or turn off your phone, do you lose your place in the MP3? How do you get back to your spot if you are in the middle of a book?

A prompt reply would be much appreciated!

The 6230 doesn't seem to have ANY controls other than Play, Pause, and Stop. No positioning control (fast forward or reverse or time positioning) at all. If you answer a call and the player doesn't stay paused, you have to listen all the way back to that point again.

My next phone will need to be able to at least fast forward. Auditions will begin if/when the Amazon rebate gets here...

Thanks for the reply. I understand from the user guide I downloaded on the Internet that if you press and hold up or down you can rewind/fast forward, but I doubt that is good enough to get back to the middle of a 3-hour audio book MP3.

That's too bad...if they had that one feature, I'd get this phone for sure.

I can't find any rewind/fast forward on mine. Pressing and holding up or down moves to the next or previous file. The music does sound quite good, though, through the Nokia stereo ear buds.
