Sorry for this repost but want as much help as I can get!

I am trying to get mp3's to use as my ringer on my CDM-9900. What's my problem? I am using the steps that are listed in the tutorial.

1. Download clip from walmart.com
2. Change the downloaded clip's extention from .mp3 to .mid (shows up as a .mid on my desktop)
3. Send the clip as attachment with yahoo to my phone # at @vzwpix.com
4. When it arrives at my phone and I open the message I get "file type .midi not supported"
5. If I try to save it I get a "no song in current slide"

Call me stupid but if anyone could please walk me through the process again I would be a very happy camper.

I am using a Macintosh not a PC if that makes a difference.

You need to "convert" the mp3 to a mid, not just change the extension. That is not a true conversion. It leaves the file to large and partially corrupted.

Do a "Search" and check some of the earlier postings on the procedures and programs to use and the steps to follow.

Or just go to one of the many free sites that have poly ringtones already in the mid format. They work well and you can attach a number of them at a time to save money.

The gumby tutorial is pretty clear: You have to reduce the bitrate and change the 30-second MP3 to mono. The gumby-suggested bitrate works perfectly. You are trying to get your phone to read a large file and that is probably what's stopping your show. Not sure about Mac, but the audio editing program suggested in the gumby tut' also works fine for the job.

I'm not a MAC expert, but is there any chance that the MAC is altering your file extension from .MID to .MIDI?

That appears to be what your phone is complaining about.

I would try emailing it to an alternate Email to see what arrives. .MID vs. .MIDI
