terrible startup/shutdown sounds
Has anyone figured out how to disable the terrible startup/shutdown "music"? I'm a lawyer and there's no way I can buy a phone that I can't turn off in court discretely. 🙂

I haven't found any other way to disable the sound of start up/shut down but to put the phone in vibrate mode, or turn off the sound completely.
If anyone else knows of something different, please let me know.

Yes, vibration is the method. The shortcut key for vibraion mode is press and hold *. I expect that a judge would require silent mode in a court room anyhow. Angering a judge is not a good thing. 🙂

Yea, don't pass up the phone for only that!! The vibrate mode is the best and only way to go for you. And you don't have to power down or up each time. As the previous post stated: just press and hold * to go in and out of vibrate.

Could you say a little more about turning the sound off completely? Is it possible to turn off all sounds, including the on/off chimes, but to keep the ringer on? Or does turning off all sounds mean all sounds, including the ringer? Thanks.

I've owned the LG VX6000 and I believe you can shut off the start-up/shutdown sounds on that model but I never did cause I actually like to hear something. But the 9900 is a much better phone in every aspect. Just like other posts suggested, use the vibrate mode and that should solve the problem.
