I don't know if you have purchased a new phone yet, but if you have not, here is my input.

I have only had my a650 for a week, but I love it. Small, but good reception. I've been in several different locations, both in buildings, out of town, interstate driving...all good reception.

Good volume and clarity as well. I did purchase an earpiece with microphone for when I'm in my office or on the road, which helps for clarity when there is other background noise, but even without that, I really like it.

Here is the microphone/earpiece I bought. It's the "Ear Clip Flex Headset."

Good clarity on both ends.

And, I love that I can preset 20 voice dials. Real nice. I'm not great at remembering which number to press and hold for speed dialing.

Even though you don't care about extra features, if you don't have a Palm Pilot (pda), you can use your a650 as a personal organizer with To-do, Scheduler, alarm, etc.

You also get a calculator, voice memo (records 2 voice memos), and it's internet ready (I think internet access, including email, is only $5/mo).

Unless you want a camera(which I didn't) I think this phone would be perfect for you.
