Mines on order... "Blue/32" of course"

Have ordered a Blue 32GB unit... Verizon claims it will ship on July 9th...

Time to retire my Droid-X... It was an excellent phone, no problems... But it is getting old...

I was hoping to have a choice for the Droid Razr Maxx HD (or whatever it will be called) or the Galaxy S-lll but the long rumored Maxx update remains "just" a rumor...

My only complaint with the Moto Droids is that they are awful slow on the updates... That should change now that Google aquired Moto Mobile...

A couple of weeks ago Verizon stated that going forward they would discontinue offering the unlimited data plan to those upgrading their smartphones unless they agreed to pay the unsubsidized price for the phones (about $700). If I preorder the phone for $199 on Verizon, am I giving up my unlimited data plan?

NO ....!!!

I went through the online pre-order system and it allowed me keep my plan just as it was...

I have an old Family 500 plan - 2 extra lines - Unlimited Data plan on my line only and the old 250 text message plan for $5...

They allowed me to keep everything the same... 🙂

However, when they go to the shared data plans, later this summer, I may change... because, just like Talk Minutes, they let you share the total data GB... Then if they offer the "Buy 2GB get 4GB for $30", I will have to seriously consider changing... Then I can switch my other 2 lines to smartphones...

Nope.

I pre-ordered mine at Target since I get the 5% discount (hey why not) with the Target Debit Card. I called Verizon to check about losing my plan, and they said since the system shows I pre-ordered before June 28th, I get grandfathered in regardless when I actually get the new Galaxy 3.

Mine arrived Friday, July 6th, 11am, FedEx...

Initial impressions are very positive...

But there are many new twists here... and it will take a while to put it all in perspective...

Put in the cute "sim" card, my 32GB SD card, the battery, and then completed the online activation routine at VZW... Then fired it up... and it was OTA activated and ready to go in about a minute...

Complete review in a couple of weeks... after a complete "shakedown" and testing...

Later... ~TMBS~
