What is the deal with this phone? I went into the Circuit City at the Gateway Center in Brooklyn and they didn't have the a670 on display. When I asked to see the phone because I was interested in purchasing it w/o a contract because my current phone is giving me problems (LG VX4600) she didn't have any. I asked her if it was going to be replaced and she has no idea. She told they haven't received a shipment of them in a while. Any information would be greatly appreciated?

I heard a while ago that they were going to discontinue this phone in favor of V-Cast phones, which they have been introducing more and more. Maybe they consider the A890 to be the "upgrade" to this phone. Probably the same reason they discontinued the v60c even though it was one of their best phones - it didn't support Get It Now, which is a great source of revenue for the company. Now they probably view V-Cast the same way, and will try to phase in more V-Cast phones and get rid of the others (except for very basic entry level phones). Too bad because all of the V-Cast phones are beasts.

I would shop around, maybe call Verizon directly or go to one of their corporate stores, if you still want the phone. Or try smaller independent r...

I gave up on this phone. I went into the big Verizon store on 42nd and 6th in Manhattan and they didnt't have the phone either. They were playing dumb. They said it was discontinued also and didn't know what was going to replace it. I think I am going to just hold out because I heard that the new Samsung SCH-a850 is supossed to be replacing the a670. I'll just wait and see otherwise I will choose another phone.

You don't want this phone anyway. See my earlier message in the thread regarding Verizon's decision to discontinue it. The phone has a defective design that will result in the hinge breaking over time. The Verizon folks I talked to said that it is a major problem. Too bad because I think it's a great phone otherwise. I have four of them in my family. One of them already broke which is when I found out about the design defect. My own phone has a tiny crack in the hinge that will absolutely break soon so I'm now looking for a new one. OTOH, Verizon will replace the phone for $50, even without insurance.

Replace it for $50 as in give you another A670, or give you a different phone? I wouldn't ...

No, they give you another a670. They didn't have any in stock in the Atlanta area when we went in and so they shipped me a new one Fed-Ex 2nd-day air. Unfortunately it took 3 days instead of 2 but what are you gonna do?

As I write this I am about to head down to the Verizon office again because my own phone is about to break. The crack I mentioned last week has now broken through in spite of being ultra-careful with it. It hasn't broken off though meaning that the phone still works but I must get a new one. Verizon refuses to handle this with a phone call; I have to go in person to their office.

I would prefer to buy a new phone (i.e. different model) but they won't let me do that without paying through the nose and paying full retail ...

I hear ya... my right hinge is braking as well. I am hoping it will survive until end of April. However I am not up for a new phone until Dec, and I got the same story... I could pay $50 for a refurbished Samsung 670 or 90 dollars for a cheap phone with no caller ID, camera, web, or any gimmicks. If you asked me verizon is screwing us over to get money. How can they sell the phones for free when signing up for a new contract, however if you are not up for a new contract charge you an arm and a leg. I don't get it.

It is CRAP!!!

I am seriously thinking about living Verizon because the way they have dealt with this.
