First of all, even LTE is not True 4G, as true 4G must be able to sustain non-mobile transfer speeds of 1 Gbps and mobile transfer speeds of 100 Mbps.

If they make a 4S with support for AWS (UMTS Band IV) (1700Mhz) then yeah, it will be able to get T-mobile HSPA+ network.

One of the executives at T-Mobile stated that they will not be getting the iPhone 5, however, he did not specify the iPhone 4S. So while it is not guaranteed that T-Mobile won't get it, there is still a chance that it will come to the network.

I read somewhere that Cincinnati Bell supposedly released the specs for the iphone 5 (or 4S). If its true they're carrying it, then that version should work on T-Mobile's hspa network.

Of course, that still doesn't mean (or make it) that T-Mobile will carry it, in which case, you gotta fork out the money.

UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

doesnt look like it supports that, so 2g for the 4s 😢

I agree but get far more annoyed with carriers calling 1+ mbps 4g.... At least with Verizon I am usually around 15mbps which is a big enough leap in my mind to be 4g.

It doesn't have WCDMA 1700 (AWS) so it's not even compatible with T-Mobile's 3G/4G network.

Even if it did, it only does HSPA 14.4, which isn't as fast as the HSPA+ 21 and 42 that T-Mobile generally touts as 4G.

Does the Qualcomm chip that Apple has in the 4S even support AWS? I am wondering since its a different chip that whats in the iphone 4. Maybe Apple disabled the AWS in the firmware?

The chip is one thing... ...The antenna design is the real issue, through.
