Treo 600 vs. Samsung i500?

OK, I"m sure this topic has probably been worn out, but I'm going to ask anyway. Any thoughts on the comparison of these phones? My plan was to use it more as a phone than an organizer, but faced with the opportunity to send and receive office e-mail through the device I could see using it in that way. I have a Treo 90 and like the keyboard. I like Grafitti less, but it's a more compact phone and I like having a standard dialing pad.

Thoughts?

How unwieldy is the Treo 600? It's bigger than the Samsung, but smaller than former PDA phones. How easy is it to tote around and use in day-to-day use? It looks like it's small enough to look and feel like a phone when you're talking on it, but large enough to be noticeable relative to ...

Yeah, I'm going between Verizon and Sprint. I've been reading the not great things about the Samsung I600.

Is the Treo reasonable from a size standpoint and not too bulky? Is not having a traditional phone number pad a hassle? Do you use it much for e-mail, etc.?

I purchased a Treo 600, love the phone and think the size is fine, actually great. Fits in a pair of khaki pants no problem, or even a shirt pocket in a pinch. Much more compact than my I300 or I330. Also, looks like they have a nifty belt clip case on the website, however the case that comes in the box is useless.

One of my business partners purchased the I500. He likes it but doesn't use the web or e-mail and doesn't have a speakerphone. Speakerphone was a deal killer for me. In any event the I500 is no Star Tac size wise and now that I have used a keyboard and the 5 way nav button, it would be hard to go back to a stylus.

One big problem with Handspring though, I have broken the screen and there is no way to get it fixed. A...

I'm considering the purchase of this phone or may be patient until the i700 samsung becomes available for Sprint.

In talking with rep's from Sprint, they confirmed that if I had the insurance (est. $3-4/mo) the phone would be covered in the event the screen was broken. They allow I believe 2 replacements per year.

This was what I was told from the Sprint Store - I used to own a Palm (broke it 3 times), and now have an iPac which I've had to replace twice - so this is a great concern for me and I'm hoping I wasn't mislead.

I would goto the Sprint store and try having them replace it!

Thanks for the note. I tried the Sprint store. They can't help me nor anyone in the Sprint organization. They say the phone manufacturer has to fix it. Handspring says Sprint has to fix it. Unfortunately I purchased the unit from Best Buy, with the extended warranty that used to cover broken screens. Now they don't apparently but at least I got my money back for the extended warranty. Still have a broken phone that noone will fix! I definitely plan to purchase the Sprint insurance as soon or if I ever get my T600 fixed.

Good luck, I'd probably go after Best Buy - that's ridiculous that the warranty doesn't cover the screen.

In negotiating with Sprint, as a last resort let them know that Verizon would have replaced the phone and you're going to switch if they don't work with you. Be upfront about the willingness to pay the insurance fee's etc.

Good news, Sprint is going to replace my phone, and here is what I found out this AM after stumbling around on the Handspring website. Handspring has a page or disclimer rather (buried deep in the website, not with the reapir info) where they specifically state that the only way to get a Sprint Treo 600 or 300 repaired is with the Sprint insurance. Fair enough, but if like me you purchase at Best Buy or other Big Box, those retailers are not conveying that message. Rather, they are pushing their worthless warranty. As I pointed out to the Sprint folks, unless they get this word out to their retail partners, there will be plenty more T600 owners like me with broken screens and no coverage, coming to Sprint asking how to get their phone fixed...

I am coming into this one really late, but just had to respond, the Treo600 VS the Samsung i500-no comparison my friend!! They are the same price, but the i500 has absolutely nothing! for $599 it should at least have an outside window with caller ID, ya think? it is also a lower Palm operating system, supports only graffiti writing, what your paying for my friend is a fancy high priced, do NOTHING flip phone! I actually bought the phone myself, I was so irrate with it the first 2 days, I took the thing right back to the store! Bought the Treo600 and am a very VERY happy camper now! The i500 has:
No Speaker phone
No Camera
No caller ID (one the outside)
Lower 3.something operating system

The Treo600 has the 5.1 operating system

I have done a lot of research on the Treo 600,and it seems to be a great buy; unfortunately it has not been offered yet by Verizon (which I consider the best service for my area - SW MI & Northern IN). However, Verizon does have the Kyocera 7135 - and I was wondering if anyone has had any pro's or con's regarding this phone versus the Treo 600.
Also, will the Treo 600 work with Graffiti; or do you need to download BugMe! in order to write something fast during those moments when typing would take too long (ie an impatient customer, or wife!)
