Premier customer update cancels out upgrade

Is there anyway to get this new phone when it comes out. I am due for a upgrade now on my HTC Hero, but as of April 1st, I loose my upgrade status for anyother year. For people that got the Evo 4g last June, that means they won't qualify for a new phone until June of 2012. What is the best way to get a new phone when the upgrade is not available to you, without having to pay $700.00 for the phone. Any ideas appreciated.

Hey bud.

Call in right now and change your plan to the everything data share 3000 or the everything data 900 plan. This will keep your upgrade status past april, then after you do your upgrade you can go back to the old set up.

It's a little pricey but it's probably worth waiting a year or paying full price.

Don't change your plan like the above user suggested. The upgrade changing has NOTHING to do with plans. In the past, for premier accounts, the 'primary' line would have an upgrade every year. Now, the only premier customers who get the primary annual upgrade are the ones considered "gold" customers (These are customers who are premier customers and have been with Sprint for 10+ years). For all other premier customers, the upgrade will be like every 20 months from your last upgrade (I am not sure if its exactly 20 months, but its around that time frame)

Changing your plan won't do anything, the only accounts that will be effected are the PRIMARY lines who CURRENTLY get an ANNUAL upgrade on a PREMIER ACCOUNT. Lets say you upgraded June of ...

You couldnt be more wrong. It is way simpler than you are making it. EVERY customer that is not a corporate customer with an individual plan of $89.99 or higher, or the primary line of a shared plan of $169.99 or higher is considered a gold customer that qualifies annually. The last option that can make you gold is being a customer (account in your name) of 10 years of longer.

Now, for it to change to gold status it has to be at least for a 3 month average at the above price levels, so changing his plan would have no benefit until June at the earliest.

I agree. chiccora, either you're an uninformed customer, or a VERY uninformed Sprint employee. The rate plan price is the PRIMARY determining factor in of you're going to be a silver or gold premier customer... Please take the time to research topics before you regurgitate on here.

If you build a time machine you could go back ten years and sign up with Sprint to qualify for the premier customer status.

ok there are two premiar levels silver and gold. the only way to be gold is to be a customer for 10 years+. gold level is the only level that gets upgrades every 12 months. silver level gets upgrade every 22 months there is nothing you can do. im looking at the policy right now so there is no more debate.

fullracecam, you too are mistaken. Gold level is based off of either being a customer for 10 plus years or having a single line rate plan of 89.99 that is in good standing for at least 3 months or a shared plan of 169.99 for at least 3 months, both of which are stated in the letter, on Sprint's webpage, and in an article earlier posted by phonescoop. I am not bursting your bubble just setting the facts straight.

OOOOhhhhh question!
so when I upgrade to a Nexus on sprint and my everything data plan price goes up to 89.99 because of the 4g data service charge does that mean that I would be eligible for upgrades yearly?

Gold Customers:
Family plans who pay $169.99/month for the family plan for the main line to get the full upgrades every year and the rest of the lines get the 22 month upgrades.

Individual plans 89.99 to upgrade every year.

In order to be a gold customer also you must have payed the bill at least 3 months straight on time and had no service interuptions.

OR

10+ years with Sprint automatic gold customer.

Silver is less monthly but hs less incentive.

I just confirmed the upgrades will be 22 months from last upgrade. Generally around the one year mark from your last upgrade you qualify for a 75.00 upgrade. The 75.00 upgrade isnt too much savings however, its 75.00 off the full retail price. You get no mail in rebate or web specials or in store rebates with that. Again you just get 75.00 off the full price; it might make most sense to wait for your full upgrade so you get at least 150.00 off and a 100.00 rebate. Tough decision you are in though, hopefully everything works out though for you 🙂

LMAO! I fail, no win here. No need to be rude though. I was wrong (Except for the 10+ tenure part and the 75.00 partial upgrade part). After April; if you are on one of the high tier data plans you will be migrated to gold. 3 month adverage of one of those plans and you need to have to have your account in a good status, so no late payments ;)

i don't know if you have noticed but the evo at retail from a sprint store is only $449.99 and not $600+. Just fyi. There are ways to keep your yearly upgrades with sprint. just call and ask.

I know about the 450.00 price and I did check with sprint and the only way a individual can keep his yearly update is be a customer for 10+ years or go to the $89.00 plan, which in a years time is going to cost me $240.00 more, their is the cost of the savings you would get off the upgrade phone price. Sprint is not loosing anything on a deal like that, you are paying Sprint in advance for the upgrade price. Way to go Sprint.

You don't have to stay on the 89.99 plan for your whole contract. 3 consecutive months of it qualifies you for gold. After your upgrade, you can drop the plan back down. So it's basically buying your annual upgrade for a $60 charge.

I received the same letter explaining that but I believe it took effect starting in April. If your phone was ready for an upgrade in March it may still be there. I may be wrong but it doesn't hurt to look into that 😁
