The Good, The bad and the ugly

The wonderful news is the new EVO will have a 1.2 ghz dual processor. 1 gig Rom. A larger battery. qHD screen. Dedicated camera button. 3D is interesting and gimmicky, but may have a place for some although it really doesn't mean much to me.

The bad, what happened to the kick stand? Why in the world not include more internal memory or a larger sd Card. From what I picked up it's still using 8 gigs a year later? The HDMI and Charger port are combined and on the side. Why? The bottom seemed like a logical place to me. But, who am I except a long time cell phone user and usually figures out what seems to work and what doesn't. The evo was as close to a well balanced phone that I have ever owned. Upgrading the screen and processor and memory...

Im actually really digging the way it looks. I think it will be less susceptible to scratches. I dont think they could have kept the kickstand with the 3d camera. I will definitely be upgrading my evo to this.

Are you going to pay retail for the Evo 3D? Cause the original Evo hasn't been out long enough for anyone who has it to qualify for an equipment upgrade.

Given that we don't know the release date yet, it's possible that anyone who is a Sprint Premier customer will be in their upgrade window by the time the Evo 3D ships. Most premier customers qualify for an upgrade at 10 months.

It's also likely that anyone who payed full retail for the original Evo will be in their upgrade window, though those folks probably won't mind paying full retail for the new version.

I'm not a Sprint customer. What's involved in being a Sprint Premier customer?

Currently anyone who has been a Sprint customer ten years or more or anyone whose service plan is $70 or higher. Anyone with an EVO most likely falls into one of those two categories. The eligibility requirements are due to change in April and then there will be two tiers: Premier Silver and Premier Gold.

If you look at the phone or watch the interview with the sprint product guy he couldn't place the HDMI port or kickstand at the bottom due to additional equipment and battery relocation.

There will be a kickstand case for those who need and use the kickstand...I never did.

Oh, that's nice that there will at least be a case with a kickstand.

Some manufacturers (Samsung, RIM, Sanyo, etc) have started placing charging ports on the sides or top of phones to protect customers who place their phones in car cup holders and have been getting water damage in the chaging port.

Also, a side-charging port allows those customers to charge their phone while still leaving it in the cup holder.

And as an in-store Sprint Technician, I'd say the decision to remove the kickstand was made in part by a request from Sprint so that they do not have to pay to replace the ones that break, as they did on the Evo.
