would anyone happen to know any sites that have custom ringtones listed? or maybe a scale for the thing so i can make a half assed attempt to make my own..lol

Verizon Wireless has a "Mix Your Own" tool for creating your own custom ringtone. Not sure what phones it is compatible with. It looks like it only supports Nokia phones, but I can't be sure.
