Why Upgrade?

I have the Droid X.

Why upgrade? Don't see any reason.
What are your thoughts?

If you already have the original X, there's probably not enough reason to get a whole new phone.

But this relatively simple swap of display and processor components by Motorola keeps their flagship phone competitive. It's probably a good choice for anyone looking to upgrade from something older than the Droid X.

I agree 100% with Rich. The X2 is a GREAT phone... one could definately make worse choices when upgrading with VZW. However, for most of us original X users, it's probably not worth the $200 investment for dual-core bragging rights and mirror mode HDMI. However, for any of my customers with a lesser or older phone wanting to upgrade, I highly recommend them.

if you have the original droid X like i do..there really is no reason. only things that are different are the dual core processor(which is nice but not enough to switch) and the droid X 2 does not have a camera button which is a nice feature..sorta. look at LTE phones as they continue to launch

Not much of an upgrade here. You can get a pre-owned iPhone 4 for $50 less

How did you make the jump from X2 to iPhone 4? I think most people that have an android phone would consider iPhone 4 a downgrad. I agree with Rich, if you have an X already, probably not much reason to move to the X2. However, if you have a feature phone, or an older android phone, and aren't in the market for a 4G phone, the X2 is an excellent choice.

The DX2's display has 35% higher resolution than the DX. I think that's pretty significant. For me, it means when surfing the web, you can fit more text on a single page and thus do less scrolling.

Correction: it has 26% more resolution than the original DX. (got confused because the new HTC's coming out have 35% more resolution than current HTC models but the Moto's resolution was slightly higher on last year's models to begin with and therefore the increase is less.)

I got the Droid-X the day it released and I love it. I agree that upgrading to the X2 is NOT worth it if you already have the Droid-X. I do not plan to upgrade until Verizon releases a decent LTE phone (possibly Motorola Targa). While waiting for a good LTE phone, I hope Verizon pushes the official 2.3 upgrade to the Droid-X.

Well I've got a two year old lg env touch its a nice phone but its getting long in the tooth and I would rather replace it before it fails. I want a android phone and the fact the 95% of the droid x2 software is the same as droid X as nice because its got most the bugs worked out. I've played around with the droid x2 at several different Verizon stores and I like it a lot big clear responsive screen , great typing experience portrait or landscape nice web browser, good camera, etc... . I even check out the LG revolution (not impressed at all the touch screen not responsive or sharp and the predictive text is a menace). For my needs 3g is enough and I can seal in 29.95 unlimited web with buying it now rather and hoping (most likely in vain ) ...

I agree with the people that say that there really isn't a difference. It may have fixed some of the original X's issues (I never had the original) but I can say the X2 IS a WHOLE lot better. I can also say that Motorola and Verizon probably put this phone out there as just another droid. It has a fantastic camera- for all videos I now just use this. It is amazing. So I can say that the original X may have had faults, but none that I've seen because I only used it on display at verizon and opted to go with a different phone at that timing (D2) and I've come back near a year later looking at this beast of a phone.

So in all, it might not be that much of an upgrade, but man it is stunning!

I upgraded from the X to the X2 out of necessity. (Long story) I would not upgrade if I did not HAVE to. I would rather have the Droid X with the Gingerbread update than the X2 without it. I chose the X2 because there is no 4G in the area and none of the "better 4g" phones have a dual core processor. If that even matters, I decided, "Well, I can take the DCP with me everywhere but only use the 4G in certain areas." Which is true. 4G is not super necessary because WiFi is offered in so many places around here, including my home, anyways.
