USB port?

I'm really excited to read in the specs that the VX4600 has a USB port. Since I haven't actually seen the phone except on line, I'm wondering how it works and what it can be used for. Can you hook the phone to a computer? Transfer pictures from computer to phone without paying the "Buy it Now" ransom? Songs? Phone lists? I appreciate any help.

Are you sure you've explored everything on this phone? I appreciate an answer from someone fairly technically savvy, because the boneheads who work at the stores know nothing. Since a USB port is listed in the specs for the 4600 and the 6000, I assume there is some functionality.

To answer your question, there is no "true" USB port on the 4600. That being said, there are adapter cables that you can purchase that on one end has a connector that fits into your phone and the other end is a USB connector that will fit into your computer.

You can purchase the cable at a number of places, one of them being Futuredial and supposedly Radio Shack. I took the easy route and just bought the Verizon Mobile Office Kit (MOK) (you can find it online for about $26. Comes with the cable and software to use your phone as a modem and also has a phonebook manager).

The MOK will not transfer ringtones or pictures. For that you will need to download a free software program called BITPIM (http://bitpim.sourceforge.net). There ...

strobes44,

Could you tell me how were you able to get your MOK to work. I ordered one online from verizon and I received it in a few days. It says it's designed for the LG 6000 although the data cable fits my LG 4600. The real problem is installing the drivers. They only supply drivers for LG 4400 and LG 6000 along with another batch of drivers for the rest of the LG phones on cd disk1. I have tried installing all these drivers but can't get the computer to recognize my phone as a modem. What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

Exchange the LG6000 kit for the LG4500 kit. That one has the compatible cable.

Godfather,

I don't think that you are doing anything wrong. I agree with heybige, you don't have the correct version of the MOK. Mine had a sticker on it that says 4500/4600. Disc 1 had drivers on it for the 4400, 4500 and other LG Phones. I used the "other LG phones" option and that worked for me. I am assuming that the 6000 drivers will not work. Maybe the drivers work but the 6000 cable is not compatible with the 4600?

Not sure why they make this so difficult!

Is the Mobile Office Kit for use with the mobile web feature, or just a stand-alone so that you can hook up to peripherals (like a computer) and up (down?) load from one to the other. I'm not interested in Mobile Web, but I am interested in moving things like pictures and stuff from my computer to the phone.

Also, is the MOK compatible with the Mac OS?

You can use the MOK for mobile web access. To be honest, I just bought it to make sure I got the correct 4600 cable and to transfer my contact (phonebook manager) information. I'm not really interested in the mobile web access part of the program.

As far as the Mac OS question goes, I found this on the Verizon website:

"What are the computer requirements for running the Mobile Office service?

All you need is a laptop computer running Windows 98/2000/Me/XP. Macintosh laptops can use the Mobile Office Service with some additional equipment requirements. Please refer to our user guides.

I'm not sure what the additional requirements are.

go here and ask around, this forum sucks compared to Howadr Forums. You will find answers to any and all your questions there.

www.howardforums.com, then goto the LG section.

If anyone is interested I started a 4600 group on Yahoo. They had a group on Yahoo for the 4400 that helped out a great deal with my work phone (4400) so I figured I'd get one started for the 4600. I've put some links on there to other forums and info on software/cables. I am just starting to populate it so be patient. I figured that most of the other forums are general forums (all LG phones) so I thought I'd put one together for the 4600 only.
