I know people LOVE there Iphones, but they never give comparisons. Its cultish. ๐ณ I would love to hear actual comparisons, like side by side,
Iphone pro's and con's and android pro's and con's in a nutshell.
...
Unfortunately, the cult works with both platforms.
...
I think it really comes down to personal preference and ease of use...while Android is a fine operating system, I truly believe it's geared more towards tech savvy folks. iPhone is definitely more mainstream and easier to see. iPhone apps are more polished and abundant but I am sure at some pint in time that gap will lessen. Also, Android is offered by several manufactures with a variety of models. I have a DROID Incredible and again while it's a great phone I will be making the switch next week.
...
very well said and unbiased. i'm considering the iphone just because of the battery life. but then i would be losing out on playing wordfeud via droid with all my friends. decisions decisions.
...
A caveat here....all else being equal, CDMA radios always drain more power than GSM.
Apple is years ahead of anyone else in battery engineering/charging technology, but I bet that people who switch from AT&T to Verizon might be disappointed with this difference: dropped calls are replaced with dropped battery life.
...
Then howcome the Blackberry manual lists GSM talk time as lower than CDMA talk time on their global handsets?
...
Manuafacturer's claims for battery power are calculated based on power draw and battery capacity - and are not based on actual long term use in actual locations. Anyone who has owned several phones knows these talk/standby don't have much bearing on real life, use of phone and typical usage.
While the power used by the RF sections may be roughly the same in a lab, it is how they operate in use, seeking signals from towers and power used for standby that makes a difference. All else being equal, CDMA usually uses more power per minute of voice call talk time vs GSM. Most CDMA phones will drain the battery far faster in low or no reception areas even if no calls are made.
What is not yet known or published is what changes or tweaks A...

Then again, the more battery drain is a tradeoff for a more consistent service, at the extreme end of the mobile phone signal range.

I have an Incredible, also. It was free though. I cannot afford an iphone. So what are you going to do with the Incredible? Place it on Ebay or hold on to it as a keepsake?

Adjustable Font Size, which is HUGE for those over 40 with 20/20 vision and only relying on reading glasses for small print.
...
MennoFeb 3, 2011, 7:05 PM
droid's offer larger screens for that, and most apps allow you to resize fonts. yes, it doesn't resize menus (which can be annoying) but those menus are already in pretty large font (12-14pt minimum)
...
Android market place: there is an app to adjust font size.
...
There are thousands of other people with the same complaint I have, and Google has not addressed it yet ->
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4547 »I would be interested in the name of that app for Android that globally increases font size as can be done on the iPhone. I know there is one that exists, but it requires one to root their phone to install it.

I will know in a week or so and post my comparisons, I've carried two phones for years (personal vs business) and I am keeping my Samsung Fascinate.
It might be more a question of "What it can't"
The IPhone doesn't have a card slot, and you can't remove or swap the battery. You also can't customize the OS but neither can the carrier or manufacturer and the later might be the key to Apple's unlikely success vs Android. The Fascinate is probably the best example of gorgeous, arguably superior hardware completely mucked up into a miserable mess of buggy, half baked core applications further mucked with by the carrier to the point (Bing and all the non-removable detritus) that it should be renamed the "Galaxy Fail"

voice to text is a biggy for me ๐ .
...
I'm unbiased in this because I've used both and will most likely continue to use both. I pre-ordered my iPhone for VZW after canceling my ATT account a while ago (got tired of paying two bills). My VZW phone I use mostly for business. But I am a HUGE music lover and having all of my music and my phone without carrying three devices is a plus. I'm going to hold on to my Droid Pro for business use and travel, but instead of having a personal and business phone everyday, I like the iPhone enough to make it my everyday phone for both for now.
There are cultists on both sides. My cousin is an IT guy and he will never, ever give up his Android phone. I like both, but honestly I do not use my Android to its full potential as some other tech savv...

My Incredible is woefully underused. I may have downloaded five apps. It is basically a glorified MiFi.

The androids are awesome for the voice to text.

Pretty much nothing. Look at DJ Skee and his Android and you'll know why ๐ tinyurl [.] com/4vp24lp

Motorola Droid 1st generation does voice to text, so I would assume all Android phones can do this

Rooting and Titanium backup will cure carrier bloat woes, no matter the carrier. Fine even if you wish to keep it stock, but just rooted.

I am an iphone user and in my opinion this is why the iphone blows the android away. Phone Standardizations
Android phones: Some have have a slide out keyboard, some don't
The G1's have a 5xx mhz processor while the new phones have 1xxx mhz processors.
Some have front facing camera's for video chat, some don't
Some android phones don't allow access to the android market.
Point: Yes the iphone increases in stats in every iteration as android phones do but without standardization of phone hardware it is very difficult to know whether an application you purchase will run good on your phone. It is very hard to develop a very good app when there are sooo many different platforms that need to be supported.
...
Want an app to run good on your phone? Just get the fastest one out there. Problem solved. It's like buying a cheap eMachines computer and wondering if Crysis (which drags down the fastest gaming systems you can build yourself) will run on it at max settings.
...
There's an Android OS powered device that does not allow access to the Market??? ๐คจ
...
LOL I was wondering the same thing myself ๐ณ
...
A more accurate statement would be that there are some Android phones that can't use apps designed for newer versions of the OS like 2.2 or 2.3. Good luck getting a G1 or MyTouch to run Angry Birds worth a crap.
Fragmentation with Android is a MAJOR concern and it's starting to surface and undoubtedly irritating a lot of customers who think that their Samsung Intercept (for example) is getting them the complete, hassle free Android experience...apparently Google is already working to minimize the fragmentation in the future
...
I hope you got your popcorn ready. This could get ugly. It is bad enough that there really shouldn't be any Android fanatics in this forum (but we know they are here) you are soliciting their opinions?! Wow! Just wow! Wow man wow!
...
And I hate it, I own both Android and iPhone, both are excellent products, pick the one or pick both if you can.
...
^^ I say get both also ๐
...
Agreed. Both are great operating systems that have their strengths and weaknesses...just choose the one that works best for you and stop assuming that one is universally better than the other. Having owned two Android phones, an iPod touch and an iPhone 4, I'd love to play God and create a hybrid version of Android and iOS...
iOS app market and user interface with Android notification system and widgets would be a winner for me personally

How about pick the platform you want and is whats good for you, and go with it.

Androids are better at pretty much everything else.

One thing I have to give Android is the ability to covert speech to text right out of the box. So you can actually text while you drive!
๐
I haven't checked to see if there's such an app you can add to an iPhone, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is.
...
I had the same concern myself. I think Google did an excellent job on the voice recognition and mapping/GPS functionality within Android. However, now that I have had my iphone for 2 days, I can tell you that its UI really blows Android away.
You can get a similar voice recognition experience on iOS by purchasing an app call Vlingo. It is free, although to compose texts and emails it'll set you back $9.99 (one-time charge). It's a pain to have to pay extra but I will tell you that so far, the iPhone IS "all that", and no, I am not a total Apple fanboy.
...
"all that" + $9.99 = ๐คฃ
...
I don't know...
Are you sure?
Maybe you are being slowly converted?
...
Android can do that right out of the box? I have an Incredible. Can you explain to me how?

Different phones for different needs. I am in no way, shape, or form trying to put down iPhone users...but...it does seem to be a smartphone with training wheels. That being said, I would appreciate it if my Vibrant didn't freeze every once in a while. I also however, am very happy with the fact that I can install any application I want and not have to be limited to only applications which are "approved" by apple such as the iPhone apps. I have spoken to many iPhone users that either have no need or desire to be able to fully customize their phones, and I guess that's ok too...if that's you're 'cup of tea'.
I'd say it really boils down to this...
iPhone= ease of use, fluidity, simplistic and reliable
Android= EXTREMELY customizable,...

Those sound like great attributes to me.

true...but...the main issue I have with it is how simplistic it is and customers STILL cannot figure it out ๐

I worked in retail and call center. My estimation of the intelligence of people couldn't be lower as a result.

The experience with working at a call center has provided me is an extreme desire to move far, far away from any hint of society. The general populous is NOT in any way, shape, or form worthy of holding a conversation with me. However, my job requires me to do so and it sickens me ๐ฟ

I have had the iPhone with att since the beginning. Bought the VZW. Got mine on the 7th. So far I have found: Battery life not much better, slightly. Reception, much clearer. Signal strength, about the same (I live in a crappy area and have always had a problem-a couple of dropped calls). Download speed, haven't measured, but 2X faster than att unless you have a really weak signal. I am in Old Bridge NJ and both att & vzw suck with any phone here. There are no damn cell towers in the area and never have been. I get most 1-2 bars around here. PS: I have an aluminum BLADE case on and have found no difference in signal, with or without it.

I understand that when the original iPhone was released, it was a revolutionary device. but since then, other platforms began to catch up. the one that stands out about all others is the android platform. i've seen many people ask for a true comparison between apple and android, so here ya go: HTC Thunderbolt vs Apple iPhone 4
thunderbolt is 4g, iphone is 3g
thunderbolt supports simultaneous voice/data (including mms during active call), iphone does not
thunderbolt has better/faster processor
thunderbolt has flashlight (before app download)
thunderbolt has available data tethering, iphone does not
thunderbolt has expandable external memory, iphone does not
thunderbolt has fm radio, iphone does not
