The IPHONE IS NOT A STATUS SYMBOL showing you're wealthy. It hasn't been since the first iphone finally got subsidized on contract.
EVERY other high end smartphone is priced $199, and they sell just fine, on more expensive plans to boot. Apple has a "tax" on the iphone, but the carrier pays it, not the consumer.
Is the iphone a nice device? Yes. But it's not head and shoulders above everything else out there anymore, and it hasn't been for well over a year. (Or do you think that the reason the iphone 4 hit so many of the "bullet points" of the idon't campain was just a coincidence?)
I had a macbook, I loved it. My dad is STILL using it 6 years later, which says something about their build quality. I can afford an iphone, I chose Android. I can afford a mac, I chose a PC because unlike iOS, gaming SUCKS on a mac, and the options for other software is limited.
They're a quality product, but they're not the best for everyone. Ask anyone who's used the various OS's which one has THE BEST notifications (they'll most likely say WEBOS, some will say Android, NO ONE will say apple).
Ask someone with an Android phone what it's like having consistant Voice commands across the board, or someone with WebOS what it's like to have true gesture based control. I'm not saying that one OS is superior over the other, but that iOS isn't the end all be all for everyone.
And I'll second what Cosmic says. I have a Windows computer, the last time I got a virus was 3 years ago, and that was because my brother figured out my password.
