LETTER TO AT&T

Dear AT&T,

For years now you have ripped me off with your outrageous prices and shady business practices. You've taken thousands of dollars from me and in return provided me with a horrible product and service. I can't remember the last time I made a call without dropping it. Seriously, it's a vague memory. I've suffered through this because I am a huge fan of the iPhone. Understand that that you've basically made my life miserable for the past few years, literally cutting the pleasure of the iPhone experience in half. Now that Verizon has the iPhone, I hope your company's stocks plummets to the point of bankruptcy. Seriously, I haven't been this happy to get rid of someone since I divorced my ex-wife. Sir you have absolutly no idea what your about to do. Let me tell you simply: all these problems you have had with att are only going to be the same with verizon. i work for att and i hate this phone. anyone who gets it is a moron. the problem is not with att network it is the device itself. i have worked here for over 4 years now and its the device. I am in customer service and take calls like this everyday. at att we had a party after work to celebrate this devil device going to someone else. You will not have a better experience on the other side I PROMISE YOU!
Verizon is going to have tiered data plans as well and the call qaulity will be no better. Get away from this phone! Seriously im trying to help out here. This phone sucks!

I'm not a big fan of att, no offense to you Funash, it's more of a personal thing with service in my area than anything else, but I have to agree with you here. I am on Verizon but I had a work line on att in the past. I've had the iPhone 3G as well as att blackberries before and after the iPhone. I wasn't crazy about any of the phones but it weas beause my signal wasn't very strong where i lived and where I worked. But as far as the iPhone is concerned, it was a cool device and it had its fun moments but as a phone it was terrible. And I don not think it was the service per se, but the phone itself. I feel like it will have the same issues on Verizon as it does on att. And as an non-iPhone smartphone user I worry about my data service once ...

This device is one I'd steer clear of for the iteration or TWO.....UNLESS Verizon is giving them away for free! Something tells me that this isn't going to be the "end all be all" that folks are expecting. As a long time Verizon customer (smartphone) I can only imagine how costly the plan are going to be to own this thing. Best of luck to to anyone who dives in on "day 1".

I'll be one of those customers who will be "diving in" on day 1 (Feb 3rd) and you'll be surprised to hear that VZW is offering unlimited data for the iPhone 4 for $30/month. Now that is even better than AT&T's current iPhone data offering so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Bottom line is, whether you currently have a BlackBerry or Android phone, the monthly cost for voice and data is the same. As far as apps go, they are, on average, cheaper than Android apps and definitely MUCH cheaper than BlackBerry apps! I've waited for the iPhone for four years and would even pay a premium for it if I had to.

HOLY BALLS!! Someone who actually talks sense (THANK YOU VIPERMAD) and not just biased nonsense.

ALL cell phone carriers have something called a "service area". If you're getting better reception in an area with a Verizon phone than an AT&T phone, there's most likely a Verizon tower closer to where you are using that phone at the time. People really shouldn't talk all this crap unless they have some actual knowledge to back it up. Because if you don't then you just sound like a moron.

Virginia-based Verizon Wireless subscribers: No, we cannot hear you now

By: Zach Epstein | Jan 24th, 2011 at 04:30PM View Comments Filed Under: Carriers - US

If the countless emails that have hit our inbox over the course of the past few hours are to be believed, Verizon Wireless is having some issues in Virginia. And by “some issues,” we mean the carrier’s voice and data services are out of commission across the entire state. Verizon Wireless’ tech support team has confirmed the problem to BGR, and it states that the cause of the massive outage is currently unknown. Verizon says it is investigating the matter just as fast as it can, of course, though the company has no idea when service will be restore...

At the worst, they would remain in 2nd place for a LONG time, but they are no where near done. Verizon and AT&T are two largest and strongest carriers financially and they are in no danger of extinction.

Sprint and T-Mobile are the ones who are at greater risk of being "Done" and even then, I don't see either of them dissappearing anytime soon.

Oh and for the record, I used to have Nextel and I did live in an area where Nextel's coverage was the best out of all of the other networks. So your phone service really depends on your area and the location of towers, the environment, etc, etc.

I work for Verizon and I will tell you this as a fact, we tested this device well over a year before deciding to launch it and there were no dropped call issues at all on our network. Now, I love competition and I have many friends that work for AT&T and I would never bad mouth another company in any way but the facts are the facts and AT&T just does not invest enough into their network and they do not test their devices as rigoursly as we do. The only reason this device had issues with AT&T is do to their network, especially with data connectivity, mainly, because they have no where near the back-haul capacity as we do and if anyone knows anything about wireless networks, you can never have enough back-haul capacity, its kinda like having a...

"is due to a huge mistake they made a few years ago and that mistake was the merger with Cingular (actually cingular purchased at&t mobility and just kept the at&t name and dropped the mobility part), "

Cingular Wireless bought AT&T Wireless back in 2004. At that time, they dropped the AT&T Wireless name, and kept Cingular Wireless. It wasn't until years later, 1 of Cingular's parent companies, SBC purchased AT&T, that they decided to change their own name to AT&T. SBC then purchased the other parent company of Cingular, Bellsouth, and decided to unify under 1 brand.

I appreciate the response and your correction on the mobility part, meaning your right on the wireless name part, as far as the other things, they are still factual. We do not provide all of the details of how much we invest in our network, as it is proprietary, hence the reason I did not list what exactly those investments were, so yes it is still true we invest over 80% of the money we make back into our network on average. Now, as far as the performance piece, net additions do not equal performance. The overall performance of a company is measured by OVERALL performance, not just how many customers you added. In fact, over 70% of at&t's net additions were iphone subs, which means those net additions came at a huge costs and will take the ...

"Also, you should know we are not publicly traded either, meaning we are still a private company, at&t is a publicly traded company"

You are half right. Verizon Wireless is a join venture between Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group plc. Both of these are publicly traded companies.

AT&T, the mobility side, is a Subsidiary of AT&T, meaning, the wireless side of AT&T is not publicly traded either.

There is no difference here, other than Verizon Wireless is owned by 2 companies, and AT&T Mobility is owned by 1.

As for ME stating that "performance is soley based on net additions" is not true.

I agree with you 100%. I'll never forget New Years Eve 1997/98 in Times Square. I had just gotten taken in by AT&T's Digital One Rate, the 1st nation wide calling plan with roaming and long distance included. Out there in the crowd, I couldn't make a call to save my life. Meanwhile, everyone around me with a Bell Atlantic Mobile (Verizon's old name) phone had no problems at all making or receiving calls.

Then there was the nightmare of 9/11 AT&T put me through. You guys are making for a great read.

I've worked for Verizon, Suncom, T-mobile, Sprint, and AT&T ... every companty multiple times. Here's my two cents on this sitch.

Some customers are just not pleased with anything. You think Verizon is going to save you money? Haha, riiiight. If you're just concerned about making calls then get a basic flip phone. MOST smartphone customers (on all companies) get as little talk time as possible and stick with larger Data and Texting plans. And most people are going further and further away from UNLIMITED talking ... especially in the last 5 years.

As for signal ... I make sure to tell my customers (currently working for an AT&T autorized retailer) if we do not get signal where they live...

That perk-tightening comes on top of extra fees and higher early exit charges. Sprint, for example, already tacks on an extra $10 monthly surcharge for 4G-capable handsets. Carriers have also doubled their early termination fees, charging up to $350 for smartphones, as a way to recoup money on the phone and contract revenue if you defect".

All cellular carriers try to pull crap with their customers. I never said Verizon was more honest than the rest. All I said is that it works. If I'm going to get screwed, I'd at least like the ability to make...

Good luck with the change over chief. You are just exchanging one evil for another. As far as verizon goes I have had them before and i actually cancelled them due to their poor service. Furthermore, those so called "unlimited data plans" yeah not really unlimited when verizon performs data throttling when you reach a certain gb amount of usage. Oh and that simultaneous voice and data. forget about it because cdma does not currently support that (goodbye tango app). Oh yea and i forgot, verizon just changed their upgrade dates from 18 months to 20 which means that when the new iphone launches for verizon in february you will have to wait atleast 20 months from that date to get antother, not to mention that at&t will be receiving all updated ...

Verizon works in my house. AT&T does not. What part of that are you not understanding? AT&T's service in Los Angeles is horrible.

Exactly use what works, when I went to AT&T is was because I had poor service in my home. And there is no doubt that VZW has a great network.

As far as future upgrades. read somewhere the ip5 will be a dual gsm/cdma phone, if those rumors hold true, I bet both AT&T and VZW get them more or less at the same time.

please get your facts straight. Verizon never offered 18 month upgrades. Some customers used to qualify for an upgrade after 12 months. Going forward, unless there is a special promotion, you are right it will be 20 months into a 2 year contract to get an upgrade. As for world capability, there are other countries that use CDMA, south and central America, the Caribbean, and China. Plus Verizon offers a global travel program with free rental of a GSM capable phone.
As for simultaneous voice and data, thats such a two sided coin. It seems like iPhone users on ATT got used to finding wifi hotspots anyway, since there were so many problems with the data network. VZW smartphones allow voice on the cell network with simultaneous data over wifi, s...

You don't know what you're talking about. I've had an iphone for the past 3 years. It is without a doubt the absolute best device ever put out. The Apple A4 processor is lighting fast. The OS is supremely smooth. Nothing comes even remotely close. 400,000+ apps is nothing to bark at. The graphics are superior to anything out there. The games, the productivity an tools are unsurpassable. Everything else is a cheap imitation. iPhone started it all. Apple is way ahead for everyone and always will be.

There are two kinds of people in this world: People who own apple products such as Mac computers and iphones and people who either too broke to buy one or people who just don't understand superior technological superiority aka haters.

I use...

I'm with Verizon. It works for me, everywhere I go. I have and Android phone (Droid 2), not because I can't have an iPhone, but because I like the freedom I have with an Android OS. I have a PC and NEVER get viruses. Because I know how to keep from getting them. I like the freedom I have with my PC to upgrade it how and when I want. I can make it faster than ANY Apple computer, using things that are not manufactured by the original manufacturer of the computer. I can use that computer to create FREE apps for my Android phone, that can do anything any app on the iPhone does. TApple products are pretty. They are easy to use. AT&T does suck, and not just because of their network. Their customer service sucks. Their advertising sucks as they fee...

and unlike android phones, a lot of customers could get away with the $15 data plan.

The IPHONE IS NOT A STATUS SYMBOL showing you're wealthy. It hasn't been since the first iphone finally got subsidized on contract.

EVERY other high end smartphone is priced $199, and they sell just fine, on more expensive plans to boot. Apple has a "tax" on the iphone, but the carrier pays it, not the consumer.

Is the iphone a nice device? Yes. But it's not head and shoulders above everything else out there anymore, and it hasn't been for well over a year. (Or do you think that the reason the iphone 4 hit so many of the "bullet points" of the idon't campain was just a coincidence?)

I had a macbook, I loved it. My dad is STILL using it 6 yea...

Yeah, PC is great.. for email and surfing the web. Try running a real program on it like Pro Tools or Final Cut. There's a reason big production studios all use Macs. And as for playing games: grow up. Whatever dude. Windows is a weak ass OS susceptible to all kinds of headaches. I didn't say the iPhone is a status symbol of wealth. What I said was there is probably some hidden reason why you are so anti-iPhone. Who knows, maybe your credit is ****ed and you can't switch to Verizon. Either way, iPhone ****s all over Android. Therefore you choose ****... a sluggish OS with minimal, wannabe apps. Actually, you know what? Now that I'm thinking about it, iPhone IS a status symbol. When a hot chick sees a guy with an Iphone she says, "That guy ha...

I've been with Verizon for 5+ years, I pay retail for my devices, price is not an issue.

I don't want an iphone because an IPHONE isn't the right device for me. The fact that you think there is only one decent OS just makes you uninformed.

As for you picking up chicks with a phone.. those must be some pretty sad chicks to be impressed by an iphone.

The iphone isn't a status symbol (and neither is android). They're devices that anyone and their mother can get.

And if you really want to start measuring epeen using cellphone technology, the women would go after someone with a blackberry, because blackberry means business, which means money.

1. Verizon and AT&T prices are almost identical and 2. They did not rob you, you gave them all your thousands of dollars even though you knew for the past 4 years they did not work where you lived so guess what, it is not AT&T's fault you were too foolish to get something that worked for you. Funny thing is AT&T gave you the choice to leave them after two years.

People like yourself with iPhone's and keep getting iPhone's knowing your service does not work for you are like they slow kid who keeps getting burnt by fire but keeps touching it.

Guess what I have an iPhone on AT&T and I never have the issues you have because I know it works for me. I also have service with Verizon and Sprint so I am not biased to any carrier it just upsets...
