In my opinion, Verizon should have waited for an iPhone that is LTE capable. The clear winner here is Apple not AT&T nor Verizon. With the competition piling up against Apple, they needed to take action. Verizon was and is doing fine without the iPhone in their lineup. I'm not an engineer, but Apple's claim that adding LTE would alter the design of the iPhone is kind of fishy to me. If they needed more space, that's possible with CDMA phones (remember CDMA phones does not utilize SIM cards). I think Apple doesn't want to bring out LTE or any other next generation iPhones till all of the providers have their networks up and running. As of right now, only two providers (Sprint and Verizon) are up and running and that's not at a 100%. Furthermore, these two are running with different technologies. The next generation of iPhone will not include 4G too. It would provide more features and that's all, in my opinion. One that I hope they would include is doing Facetime without a WiFi connection. That was one of the main reason of why I got the iPhone 4, but only used it a handful of times.
