how soon after the iPhone4 release to Verizon will ATT get the iPhone 5? and then how long with VZW customers have to wait until THAT is cdma?

the iphone 5 (or whatever they call it) will be out in June/July just like EVERY other iphone device. I don't know when the CDMA device will be launched. I do know that apple likes getting stuff on a scheduale, so it might come out then, or Verizon might pass over this upgrade entirely (unless it's huge.. as in 3gs to 4 huge and not 3g to 3gs) and wait until 2012, when they estimate a multi-carrier LTE device will be available.

I don't think they will bother with an iphone 5. It would be a nightmare. How many of these consumers who purchased an iphone 4 would complain about the iphone 5 making their device obsolete?
...
From what I have read as of late, the iP5 will be a dual cdma gsm phone.

Where have you read this???

Are you serious? They have to keep coming out with new products, that's how it works. Investors would riot if they didn't refresh the product line. No consumer can complain, because anyone paying attention knows that they introduce a new iPhone every year, mid-year, like clockwork.

Very true Rich, this is no secret. It all depends how many people wish to wait 4 or 5 months?

In my opinion, Verizon should have waited for an iPhone that is LTE capable. The clear winner here is Apple not AT&T nor Verizon. With the competition piling up against Apple, they needed to take action. Verizon was and is doing fine without the iPhone in their lineup. I'm not an engineer, but Apple's claim that adding LTE would alter the design of the iPhone is kind of fishy to me. If they needed more space, that's possible with CDMA phones (remember CDMA phones does not utilize SIM cards). I think Apple doesn't want to bring out LTE or any other next generation iPhones till all of the providers have their networks up and running. As of right now, only two providers (Sprint and Verizon) are up and running and that's not at a 100%. Furthermo...

Facetime without WiFi won't be possible until there's a 4g iPhone. Read the article on over hyped features. Video chat over 3g cell signal is less than perfect.

I realized that. Hence me saying, "hoping". However, Apple has in the past has come up with things to bypass obstacles. On a different note, even though did find a way the providers has put a damper on that with limit data. Go figure.

It's not fishy. An LTE iphone would be huge.

They should release the AT&T iphone 5 on schedule, but wait until 2/2012 to release a CDMA version.
...
It will be interesting to see whether they keep the GSM and CDMA versions on the same schedule.
I wouldn't be surprised if they announced new GSM and CDMA versions at the same time, but the CDMA version shipped a quarter later, at least for the first year or two.

Verizon finally gets the iPhone and doesn't make it global? Unreal

Most likely they couldn't do it without a serious redesign of the phone, thus making it NOT an iphone4.
My monies on it would've made the phone too thick for Apple's design tastes.

It suck because the phone is not 4G (LTE)! I rather get the new Droids!
