I DONT THINK THAT WILL HAPPEN IF THAT WAS THE CASE WE WOULD BE ABLE TO INTER SWAP PHONES BETWEEN SPRINT AND VERIZON WHICH WOULD BE AWSOME BUT NOT LIKELY

I think you underestimate the skill and determination of iPhone hackers. 😉

It isn't that it can't be done for other phones, it's just that no one cares enough to go to the considerable trouble.

it will happen eventually, but easier to take it to PagePlus without hacking, or a few simple hacks to have it working on Cricket. I'm sure in time people will have them working on any other CDMA carrier. Hardest company to take a hacked phone to is Verizon, so taking a verizon phone elsewhere is a breeze...

ive seen certain sprint smart phones put to verizon just to see if they could. too much time on their hands, but it can be done.

i would imagine sprint will be getting it soon enough. with att and vzw having pretty similarly priced plans, people would really jump ship to save some coin with sprint. only speculation of course.

There is no reason the CDMA iPhone wouldn't work on Sprint technically. Thats a give in. And yes we hear of here and there somebody managing to get either VZW or Sprint to authenticate either of the phones on each others system. But that is a rare. And I mean by legal reason's, not spiffing esn's which is illegal. Even if Sprint opened up, I'm pretty sure that Apple has the phone locked down to only work with VZW (of course with VZW's blessing) similar to locked gsm iPhones.

I know someone who had an AT&T iPhone hacked to run on T-Mobile. And it works!

yes, jailbroken, and then unlocked, and works under edge on tmo, not 3g. But if you updated to 4.2, you can't unlock, and the jb is tethered.

I'm trying to wrap it around my head how it would work. Let's say somebody cracks a CDMA iPhone, unlocks it, whatever. Then they take it to Sprint, or Cricket, or Boost..... wouldn't they simply just say, "We don't support that device"?

i dont know the specifics, but i know there are a ton of people with cricket that have sprint phones.

to get it on a sprint contracted plan, you would have to put an esn on it that sprint already has in their system. as far as i know, that isnt legal.

boost im not sure of since its relatively new. but i know a lot of people that have non boost phones active on a boost account.

As with iPhones that are cracked to run on T-Mobile, you probably wont be able to get 3G. That and I'm sure visual voicemail with be unusable.

Yeah no 3g, and I doubt VVM would work, since it has to be pushed by the carrier. I'd be more concerned with 3g then VVM which is nice, but not really mission critical, at least for me.

As I mentioned earlier, I recently switched to Virgin Mobile temporarily until the iPhone comes out on Verizon. I've been without VVM for a month now and it totally sucks! lol. It's super annoying hearing messages the old school method of pressing numbers, waiting for commands and skipping through messages. I never though I'd miss VVM that much. It really does make life a lot easier. Even though I'm more of a text/email person, I realize now how many voice messages I still get. I can't wait to have it back again with Verizon.

Well...if it could be done I do not think the 3G problem would wash. The reason T-Mobile does not support 3G on the iphone is because T-Mobile's 3g bands are 1700/2100 mHz and AT&T's are 850/1900. Sprint and Verizon both support the same frequencies although Sprint is 1900. I just do not see Sprint allowing an iphone MEID to be activated on any of their carriers: Boost, Virgin or Sprint.

I suppose it could be done, however i think more than likely you will see people using it on other vendors such as PagePlus, Metro and other VZ pre-pay carriers. However that being said, as PagePlus did away with BlackBerrys on their end and will not allow for blackberrys to be activated, so might the others. Its just going to be a big wait and see. I may personally use a little of my tax return to buy and iPhone outright and try it on page plus to see if it works.
