☹️
After waiting all this time, and given that a new radio had to be fitted into this phone, how could verizon not insist on having the LTE frequencies included in this version?

It's not just a frequency, it's a whole different chipset, which may be bigger and/or require a bigger battery.

Apple answered that question at the event. They said it would have required unacceptable design compromises. I assume they mostly mean size.

I can tell you from seeing and holding them at CES, that the first LTE phones are definitely on the big side. The ThunderBolt, Revolution, and Droid Bionic are all very thick phones.

Thanks Rich- makes sense. Sort-of. I have lot of friends who have taken the compromise of the larger sized phones (e.g. Epic 4G) to get the 4G speed. It's just IMHO, but I think that would have made it even more distinctive for VZW. And since so many people are unhappy with AT&T's service, I'll bet they would have given it a try even at the larger size lol! And VZW would have not had to worry as much about the capacity issue on their 3G network- we shall see.

BTW: unrelated, sent several emails to the site regarding the Sprint Moto ES400s- are you ever going to review that phone? 😳

Key word here is Apple. Apple thought 4G compromises would be too much, too much size, battery, etc. That's why Verizon supposedly turned Apple down the first time, as Apple is heavy handed about their products. Verizon is too, so hard to manage that relationship. Apparently Verizon lost out on the 4G battle as their CEO said they wouldn't make a 3G iPhone and to watch for iPhone when 4G came out. So now we have 4G and a 3G iPhone... Same thing happened to at&t...
Just enjoy it, Apple will tell you what you want and when you want it...

why would they release the best device day 1? They have a whole line of dumb consumers who will wait in line for this "new device" that was released in June 2010. The device with LTE will come out when they actually get LTE phones. Perfect timing for all mentioned earlier to pay FULL PRICE for the LTE version. Because, you KNOW they will.

Its genius.

PS. CDMA + iphone = poop. That is like having a perfectly good engine... and replacing it with a horse.

Finally, an iphone the Amish can use.

Yeah, but...

iPhone + ATT = stinky poop. That is like having a perfectly good Ferrari and unplugging 4 of the spark plugs.

Unlike the perfect storm....the perfect cell phone EXPEREINCE (I'm talking the whole ball of wax here) is still MIA! 🙂

Then again...YMMV. I hate ATT!! Hate them, hate them hate them. I routinely check in with them to let them know

a) they are still doing a great job of letting my voicemails through to me...but not the calls.

b) No, I don't want to turn 3G OFF.

c) I'd like to kick them in the NUTS everytime their service sucks (I'd have a sore leg an...
