Inconsistant Signal

I just got my Charge yesterday and have noticed that it's signal is very inconsistant. I have it sitting next to my Droid X, a Incredible 2, and a Droid 2 Global.

My Charge shows 0-2 bars of 3G.

The rest of them all show 3-4 bars of 3G.

Speedtest-wise. The Charge gets at best 1 mb down and .8 mb up.

The rest 1.5 - 1.7 up and 1.1 down.

This is very odd. Any experince this or have any sugguestions why such poor performance?

Also I am literally within 200 feet of a verizon tower.

Regardless of how many bars the display shows, do you have any problems making or receiving calls? Probably not.

I have mine exactly a week now and the signal strength meter acts similar to the way you describe, yet my ability to make and receive calls far exceeds the old Samsung SCH-i760 I just replaced .... and without dropping any either I might add!

Just enjoy the best Samsung phone to date.

FWIW, from the Home screen, hit the Menu button on the left, then go to Settings, (i)About Phone at the bottom of the list, Status, then scroll down to Signal Strength. You should be seeing around -80 to -85dBm.

Yeah making calls works fine but I use mine for a lot of data and streaming, so the low speeds is a concern for me. I've tried, as of now, 5 Charges, all have the same signal issues.

I find this really odd, should not a flagship phone like the Charge be at least equal to non-4G phones in relation to 3G speeds and signal?

I don't have any data speed issues on 4G or 3G. Sounds like something's fishy where you are.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'm in Fort Myers, FL. I have driven all over Fort Myers and get the exact same issue with every Charge I have tried. This really confuses me.

Hmm, guess I am going to have to call VZ techs and see if they can do a ticket to find out what in blazes is going on with the Charge in my area.

I think (am pretty sure) that when VZW went for the 4G upgrade it didn't go exactly as planned. They have ISSUES. It will take time to work them out. Of course, they would never disclose this. The 4G signal is not consistent and I am sure they know about it and are working hard to resolve. Just don't expect them to own up to it in public. You WILL get VZW 'moles' on here and other sites telling you how great it works for them. I am in DC and have witnessed the issues on many of my friends phones. All I can say is 4G is not ready for prime time yet.
