Is The Droid Charge a Slug?

by DavidNJ    Apr 29, 2011, 10:18 AM

There are a variety of benchmarks showing up on YouTube.

-On the Quandrant, which covers a variety of calculations and graphics, it is showing up at just over half the performance of the HTC Thunderbolt or the 3G Incredible 2. The number are about 2500 for a dual core Atrix, 1800 for the Thunderbolt, and 1000 for the Droid Charge.

-Mflops are less than half also

-Another test by PCWorld showed battery life to be WORSE than the Thunderbolt running the same load (it was tested playing movies over LTE) even though it has a bigger battery and the advertised 'up to' number is much higher

-MobileTechReview found the voice reception to be worse, and both MobileTechReview and PCWorld found the sound quality of both mic and speakers to be marginal.

Note: the screen got high marks as did the camera quality.

The TouchWiz interface has a few nice features but in other areas may not be as nice as the HTC's TouchSense.

The sound quality is a mic and speaker or amp quality issue. The rest may be that Samsung slowed it down to save battery life. The Bionic is reported to be delayed because of thermal issues, which also imply high power usage.

What annoys me is the slow way information is leaked out coupled with Verizon dropping the one year contract. If getting the Thunderbolt, it could have been purchased a month a go with the one year contract vs. the performance challenged Droid Charge now with only a 2-year contract being available.
