Anyone know if its true they're going to continue encrypting the bootloader?

It's a deal breaker for me, I need to be able to use my phones how I decide, not some distant marketing chimp.

Latest I've seen on this is:

Would be nice to actually KNOW that MOT has decided they really want to stay in business.

I'm a little bit worried about the bootloader being locked, but I have tremendous faith in the fine people at XDA. This is going to be the most popular phone on AT&T, and in the U.S., at least until the Bionic comes out to rival it, so the person who cracks the bootloader will be a hero. I know that I will be doing my part by funding someone with coffee and Mountain Dew so that they will crack it ASAP. 🙂

While I give the XDA folks a lot of respect for their work, I'm less optimistic.

DROID X and DROID PRO are still crippled

The 'Bionic' is also still crippled, despite the irony.

I was mistaken when I spoke before.

Basically every phone has a locked bootloader, it's the encrypted bootloader that is the problem. It has been confirmed that the Atrix has an encrypted bootloader, which is unhackable.

The Atrix has already been rooted, 3-4 days before it was released to the public. What this means that that you can remove the bloatware that AT&T puts on the phone, and you should be able to use the hotspot and tethering options without the extra cash going to AT&T. You will be able to change the GUIs, but the kernals must be signed and based off of Motorola's version of Android which on the Atrix is 2.2.
